This 2 week pre-op diet is the hardest thing to stick to. It is so difficult to only drink three protein shakes a day and 1/2 cup cottage cheese and 4oz of chicken or tuna a day. I really want to stick with the program but I am finding it more difficult than I thought it was going to be!! Anyone have any suggestions to make it through the next 11 days?

My diet before my surgery (a few wks ago) was to eat high protein/low carbs.
2 wks before surgery I wasn't allowed to have potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, of course no sweets and the Dr even wanted us to not have fruit!
The day before was only clear, nothing creamy or w/ color, like cream or tomato soup(s) and it had to be sugar free.
My challenge has been since surgery...my 1st week was similar to my day before surgery, Only clear liquids/broths/clear jello.
Every week since then Ive gradually been able to incorporate small things.
While grocery shopping yesterday, I told my husband I don't desire the junk (as of right now) as much as the desire to chew on something with crunch!
An apple or fresh carrot stick would suffice
Before surgery I could be satisfied for a long time on a piece of gum.
Ive tried a couple times since surgery and both times I couldn't hardly keep it in my mouth.
Im finding a lot of saliva build up happening and having a bad gag reflux, I end up spitting it out after a minute or 2.
Im so sad because chewing gum used to be fun and a way to occupy myself...lol!
I totally understand the long time frame of your pre-surgery diet.
Theres been times Ive longingly checked out my husbands food and the smell(s) of others food is about enough to make me dizzy!
I know & totally understand its tough but if you've made it this far then You are tough and strong
Push through this small time in your life and go for the better picture...a healthier/happier You!!
You can and Will do this because You want it :agree:
I know its not the ideal thing but can you split your cottage cheese into 2 meals and then also switch out chicken and tuna just so youre not getting burnt out so fast?
Ive gotten extremely tired very quickly of my slim pickings food options so I totally get you in that way but every week does get better.
Maybe not as fast as "I'd" wish for time to get on but everything is in due time!

The two weeks pre-op for me:

Diet Regimen: A whey protein shake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a snack that has at least 25 grams of protein per shake. Sip on clear liquids and full liquids between meals.

Clear liquids allowed: Water, broth (any flavor), sugar-free gelatin, sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free kool aid, crystal light, decaf unsweetened iced tea, decaf coffee, flavored water, diet arizona tea, diet snapple, or propel fitness water.

Full liquids allowed: Low-fat cream soup (cream of chicken, broccoli, mushroom, onion, asparagus, etc.), V8 tomato juice (NOT V8 Twister fruit drinks), tomato soup, low-fat yogurt, skim milk, soy milk, sugar free fudge pops, and sugar free low fat pudding.

Dietary goals: 1300 calories per day.
90-120 grams of protein per day.
Less than 100 grams of carbs per day
Take one adult chewable multivitamin(for example: Centrum Chewable) or
two children's chewable vitamins(Flintstones chewable complete) once daily.

Helpful Tips: IF you would like to chew solid food, eat raw or cooked non-starchy vegetables such as carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, peppers, or cucumbers. NO starchy vegetables like, potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, or peas. You may have a vegetable salad with fat free dressing, steamed vegetables with parkay fat free butter spray or vegetable soup.

IF you are struggling with excessive hunger, eat 2 tablespoons of peanut butter per day. (Smuckers Natural peanut butter is suggested) or a 1/4 cup of nuts.

Don't skip meals---try to distribute your protein shakes throughout the day.

Avoid all carbonated beverages and high sugar drinks as you will not be drinking these after surgery.

Once a week (Once during the first week and once during the second week) you may have 3-4 ounces of grilled meat (fish, chicken, turkey, etc.)

Sorry but this was my pre-op diet typed straight off the sheet lol. All to shrink the liver. I did opt for the 1/4 cup of nuts everyday, a spinach salad everday, and a cream of whatever soup everyday. I never did the once a week deal on the meats. The sugar free jello and pudding was put to great use also. It was tough but you can make it. Maybe this will give you a little more of an idea of things you can eat. I'm learning that every doctor has their patients do something different and it's weird but this is what I got and my liver was shrunk and normal lol.

My surgeon uses a three week liquid protein drink diet pre-op and it was challenging. I was exhausted and hungry trying to drink only three drinks a day. I went in and talked to the nutritionist who said that I was actually able to have as many drinks as I needed --- so you might want to double check with your surgeon and find out if you are eating/drinking enough.
