Staples left in stomach

I just watched a youtube video on the sleeve procedure. After seeing the video I have a question. What happens to the staples? Do they stay in place forever? Any problems with them doing this?
My surgery went well with no pain at all. The nurses were surprised, they look after all kinds of surgeries and did not have many that did not have pain after surgery.

I don't know for sure, but I believe that they will eventually dissolve after the stomach has healed around them. I have a picture of the removed organ, which also has staples which are small and kind of an off-white color, non-metallic.

Congrats on the minimal pain after the procedure. I also was in pretty good shape after the surgery, and being up and walking afterwards was much easier for me than it was for a lot of others on the recovery ward. I attribute it to hard work pre-surgery. It looks like you were also quite successful in your pre-surgery time.

I didn't get staples in my stomach just dissolvable sutures. Same as the incision through my abdominal muscle above my navel, just sutures on the inside that the surgeon said my body will eventually push out. Everything else was super glued shut....not with super glue of course, but with the band aide type glue. You can hardly tell at this point except where they went through my abdominal muscle, there is a "dent' if you will that the doctor said would return to normal once the sutures release.

Glad all went well. Having minimal or no pain is a plus. I think I had nurses complaining about me walking the hallways (alone) after surgery, but I felt great and was able to do as the doctor ordered.

I had the same experience with walking after surgery. I was out of bed 2 hours after I was in my room. I didn't walk miles or anything, but they were all surprised at how fast I was doing it. I did have problems with pain and was getting morphine every couple hours. As well as anti-nausea meds.

Now that I'm home I'm getting around real good and not having too much pain. So glad that I'm on the nice end of the spectrum with the rest of you guys.

So glad things went well for you. I was told that the staples are real small and they stay. They are made of titanium. You won't be setting any metal detectors off with them.

I hope my surgery goes as well. Just booked it :)

I wonder why some do staples and some do sutures. I thought I would have staples but didn't get them. It's so weird to hear what each doctor does or tells their patients.

I was told they are titanium staples and will always be there. The surgeon said he has never had a problem with a rogue staple or anyone's body rejecting them.

My surgeon uses a tool that cuts the stomach and staples at the same time. So the difference may be with the instraments they use. I shouldn't have any staples anywhere else.

The titanium staples that formed your sleeve stay forever. Sutures, internal or external used to close incisions along the way dissolve.

My surgeon told me that the sutures that closed my stomach will dissolve, but when I see white strings coming up from my incision that went through my abdominal muscle, I can trim them down as it will be my body pushing those sutures out. Yea, sounds weird like, what's the difference, but, it's starting to happen. It looks odd.....but expected.
