I recenty had my cholesterol and glucose tested and here are the results.
Cholesterol 156 (2010) 166 (now) normal value less than 200
HDL (good cholesterol) 60 (2010) 71 (now) normal value above 40
LDL (bad cholesterol) 85(2010) 81 (now) normal value less than 130
Triglycerides 53 (2010) 68 (now) normal value 45-150
Glucose 91 (2010) 94 (now) normal value 70-99
The cholesterol level tells us if we are at risk for heart disease such as hardening of the arteries, so anything less than 200 is desirable.
I couldn't believe how much my HDL (good cholesterol) jumped since I started working out consisently since November of 2012. The higher the value the better for HDL.
LDL cholesterol can be improved by implementing lifestyle changes, including decreasing the amount of saturated fat in the diet, achieving and maintaining desirable body weight, and getting regular exercise.
Glucose is used to test for diabetes. I have diabetes on both sides of my family, so this is a worry for me. As long as I stay active by exercising and eating right I have a good chance to stay diabetes-free.
