Those old carb cravings are haunting me

It is really hard in SE Asia to find anything sugar free or low carb. And of course everything comes with rice. There was coke zero but I was happy with water 99.9% of the time or coffee so this was not really a comfort to me. I struggled to get any sweeteners or low fat milk which I have in my coffee. So although I tried to make the best decision every time based on the options available, it was impossible to stay low carb. We were only there for 3 weeks and I figured it shouldn't effect my cravings too much when I got home. WRONG!!!! Here I have many low carb options (not as much as the States for sure). So I am eating well, feeling full and all I want is great big bag of potato chips or a bar of chocolate. They are my old enemies and I don't mind going there once in a while as a special treat, as skinny folk do. But by oh boy these cravings are killing me. Not hungry just want sugar. Can't wait until they die away again. Someone tell me they die away again....please.

They haven't, for me at least, but I decided I tend not to to be super-restrictive in my diet either. I don't give in immediately, (often if I wait, the craving will go away), but if there's something I can't get out of my head for days, I'll find a single serving bag or whatever and work it into my day around other high quality food options. That's typically enough to squash my craving. Once or twice I've had it happen where I kinda got fixated on a favorite snack and decided to quit it cold turkey for a while, (find a new fav). I look at it as it's okay to have "delayed gratification" once in a while. As long as I know it's still an option, I don't fixate as much. I understand some folks can't do it, but that's pretty much how I "manage" cravings.
That said, I had a nurse coordinator tell us at some point that if you're craving carbs, you may be lacking chromium in your diet. I did add a chromium supplement while I was trying to lose my pre-op weight and felt like it helped a bit. Might have been 100% mental, but whatever works, I guess!0 -
That's interesting. I think it is that I introduced more carbs in 3 weeks than I had had in 7 months. I don't mind a little carb craving and treated myself now and again as most folk do in the world. I am good today. Reminding myself that I probably have another option in the cupboard or fridge that will satisfy me just as much. Didn't get this far to turn back that's for sure.0
