Prepare Ye the Way of the LORD

Meditation
Friday, Ordinary 34, Proper 29 remained one of the most musically experienced of all the Scriptures studied. Handel wrote The Messiah and concentrated on Isaiah 40, which prophesied the coming of Jesus. The transformative time of the era, when John the Baptist would be the one crying in the wilderness and preparing people to be ready to recognize the Christ, when he came, but also receive him. John preached a baptism of repentance. He encouraged preparing the hearts for the coming of God in human form.
His cousin, Jesus would be coming and bring comfort to the Hebrew people, and more. To all who would believe, God would be the comforter and the Shepherd who would carry the lambs and walk with those, who were pregnant and struggling.
Life was hard in biblical times, but it remains difficult and challenging today. The more things change, the more they stay the same. People struggled with the obstacles in life before Jesus came and they continue to wrestle with the challenges to overcome the temptations and problems.
But God promised that he would be there for all who love him. God will carry those needing to be carried. He will walk alongside those needing him close at hand. Whatever the needs, the Lord will be there to fulfill them…just as he fulfilled the needs of the Hebrew people as they left Egypt and journeyed to the Promised Land. God provide for their needs just as he will provide for our needs.
We have only to trust God to fulfill his promises to us, even when they may look dismal. God has great plans in store. The promises in Revelation reveal a spectacular location with everything at our fingertips. The streams flow from the throne of God and the trees produce fruit each month—offering healing to the broken.
Thanks be to God.

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!

10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.

I hope you found a chance to encounter your Creator and experience the Love of God and the joy of Christ in Ordinary 34, Proper 29.
Conclusion
Friday, Ordinary 34, Proper 29 sang its way through the readings today. It is impossible for me to read Isaiah 40 without the whole choir singing in my head. I think heaven must be full of people singing the Messiah. Besides being one of the greatest pieces of music in history, it is also a way that people memorize the Holy Word of God.
The powerful words of Isaiah, the prophet, as he foretold the miraculous events of the coming of Christ, resonate in all the music of the Messiah. The praise and glory to God in the music and libretto resonate
Even Psalm 100 has been put to music repeatedly offering a chance to memorize the words of praise.
Music is a wonderful means to memorize, so like David, who said he hid God’s word in his heart that he wouldn’t sin against God. The words of the prophet are a reminder for all to avoid sinning against God, so that we can be at the throne of God, seeing the river that flowed down the streets of heaven and nourished the trees that provided healing.
Healing of all the hurts. Healing of all the disappointments. Bringing comfort where people have disease and brokenness. Solving the problems that beset humankind and replacing it with warmth and light of the presence of God. No more tears. No more sorrow.
In the meantime, like John the Baptist demonstrated, regular people can prepare the way of the Lord…starting with our own hearts and expanding to the things in life which are obstacles for people encountering the loving God.
Go out and be ready for God to do mighty things in your life—for the glory of God.*
