Was contemplating a rest day from gym today but decided to go with my buddy, do some bag work during her abs class then do some leg work.
So had done about 27 mins on the heavy bag, punches and kicks and had set myself to do a final 3 minute round before starting the weights. Threw a jab and cross then roundhoused the bag which was swinging back towards me, it caught me on the ankle and something went crunch. Instantly in too much pain to continue. Managed to get my shoe off and strapping I had over achilles off for a look and thought it will be ok if I walk it off. Walked through gym and could hardly bear weight on it
Friend ended up taking me up to emergency department. Very embarrassing going to your own place of work as a patient and having to explain what you did. Xrays show some calcification on the ankle but they think its old as its very smooth and I did injure the same ankle about 12 years ago. So it seems its not broken but I have busted up the ligaments.
Whilst I am glad its not broken I am incredibly frustrated as have been doing so well. Have tried it out and established I am not gonna be doing anything weighted on it for some time as I can only just about flex and extend it and it keeps pulling me up short with pain when I walk on it. Luckily its still another 7 months to superhuman games so Ive time to recover. Ive had to organise lifts for the school run tomo as I am not gonna be able to drive then hubby is off work for 3 days so hoping by Monday to be driving again. Also had to take weekend off work as 12 hour shifts on a bad ankle is probably not good. Looks like Im gonna have to take some enforced rest days from gym too. Planning on doing just gentle walking between now and tuesday then seeing my personal trainer for a plan to do upper body and rehab the ankle to get it fit again
Maybe next time I should pull the kick...

Oh no! You have been doing so well I hope it doesn't keep you down too long.0

Two steps forward one step back. I'm sorry about your injury. I can only imagine how much it sucks with all your progress to have to sit it out for a while.0

I worry about this type of thing so much, because every time, without fail, that I've started getting healthier, I've gotten injured. And with a 5" screw in my left ankle from a break several years ago, I'm more leery now that I was before... Hope you heal quickly!0

Lise, do chair exercises until you can get to a trainer to set you up with a program...that way you aren't putting weight on your foot/ankle..0
