Winter bulking?

This year I've lost 2.5st (or down from a UK size 14 to an 8). I have maintained for about 2 months, seeing improvements on my weight lifting.

I'm kind of thrashing around for a new goal now, and am thinking about taking my strength training more seriously. I think I need to eat more. I am currently reading about bulking and the idea of a winter bulk.

Have any of you deliberately gained weight? Have any of you improved your strength by doing anything more than increasing the weights you lift?

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated!
