Splitting runs

I'm currently hoping by the end of this month I will be consistently running about 70-80km a week, and I would like to increase that in the new year once I've adjusted to it. Unfortunately 70-80km is also probably the limit of my available time without splitting my runs.

I've investigated the route and running to work is just over HM distance.

So my question is, what distance should my LSR be at before I can fairly safely contemplate running to and from work (total of approx 42.6 km) in a single day?

Your LSR should be between 25-33% of your total weekly milage. Actually, closer you are to 25% the safer you will be.

So I should should try and find a way to get my weekly mileage up to about 120-160km a week before I really contemplate the running commute?

Should I try and find/make (hopefully I don't end up sleeping on the couch) the time to get my LSR up to 35 or 40 before I consider the double?

How do you get to work now? Can't you do that one way and run home, then run there the next day (but not run home)?

I drive and leaving the car at work overnight isn't an option unfortunately.

A friend suggested public transport, so I'm going to look into the train schedules and run into work, then run part way home and train the rest.

If I get that working well, I'll just keep moving down the line as I run home, as the path is basically along the train line.
