I am looking into HRM options and the straps look like something I would often forget to put on. Does anyone know if the smart watches with integrated HRM sync with strava yet? if so do you have any personal experience? Did some googling and couldn't really find an answer. I know it's probably not the cheapest option but it could be neat. THANKS!

My suggestion is to get an idea of what you are interested in and willing to spend, then head over to DCRainmaker.com to check out reviews.

Having said that, beware of the smartwatches with the optical HR sensors built in. Many of them, perhaps most of them, at this point in time don't work very well during exercise due to the way the optical HR sensors work. I've heard the MIO ones are the best at the moment.

For a concrete suggestion, start with the new Garmin Forerunner 920XT. It's technically a tri watch so it does swim/bike/run, has an optical HR sensor that I think is pretty ok, and functions to a degree as a smart watch when linked to a phone. Will autosync with Garmin Connect through your phone if you set it up, and Garmin Connect can be linked with Strava to automatically transfer workouts.

    Here's a link to DC Rainmaker's 920XT Review.

interesting idea. I'll look into it. I'm all about hopping on the bike and going. the less effort i have to put in the better.

I do not believe the 920XT has a built in HR monitor, you still would need to use a strap.

You, sir, are in fact correct. I must have been thinking about the Basis Peak or something. Sorry about that.
