Yippee! Pureed food

After 2 weeks of full liquids (and these last few days have seemed like a month
) I moved to pureed foods. I started my morning with a scrambled eggbeater egg w/2 tsp of cheese. The eggs were wetter than I would prefer to eat them, but still it was solid(er) food! The interesting thing I noted right away is that my breakfast today had less protein in it than the yogurt I had been eating on liquids. I wonder, is it possible that when I'm eating more solid food that I will have a greater need to supplement the protein intake? For some reason, I had it in my head that once I start eating more solid food, I would get more protein intake that way and could reduce the protein supplement.

My first egg was a wonderful day! I also noticed that protein gets harder as you start to eat more real food. My protein shakes are roughly 6:1 calories to protein and eating normal food 10:1 is more normal for "good" food. If I don't supplement with protein powder I find it quite difficult to hit my 100g protein goal (higher than most).0

I hit 40g of protein yesterday, and that was only because I had a premier shake! I'm struggling with the suggested meal plan from my office. Calls for 3 meals and 3 snacks, with breakfast 1.5 oz pureed protein and 1oz of fruit; midmorning meal of 8oz milk with not two, but one protein scoop.
I was doing up to 4oz of liquids, not sure why it's a drop, then 8oz of milk is OK?
My office lists eggs as pureed but said most people wait til soft food, or day 15+ to try them. I've been running a day or two behind 'schedule' so I'm giving eggs a go this weekend. So excited!!0 -
I had my first pureed day yesterday. I did eggbeaters 1 egg equivalent w/a tps of cheddar cheese. For lunch I did pureed tuna. For supper I did pureed roast beef hash (oh, the flavor was so good) and a babyfood sweet potato & apple combo. I did a 1/4 cup of each. There is no way I could have gotten in my protein in take without having a shake. I wouldn't have even been close. As it was, I had to add in a sf carnation instant breakfast before I went to bed to get my calories to 600 and my protein level at least close. I am really perplexed as to how to get enough protein in w/out a supplement.0

I'm really confused about volume of intake. I was told not to drink a whole premier shake (11oz) at this time, to avoid risk of overfill. But I can sit and drink 8oz of milk....but only 2.5oz at meals....SO CONFUSING!
I was told no more than about 1/4c or 4oz at a time - I'm in awe that you did 3/4c for dinner! Was that all at one time?
My BUT also advised that I not add the fruit flavored protein to the water I sip all day, that it's almost cheating. That later on, folks have issues meeting protein goals when they are on all solid food, I guess since they relied on it. I'm just looking for some flavor and benefit to the water (other than the hydration!)0 -
Actually, it was only 1/2 cup- 1/4 hash & 1/4 cup babyfood. I ate it over the coarse of an hour. However, the nurse & NUT did tell me I should be working towards 3/4 cup per meal. They also told me to continue to shoot for 64 oz fluid every day and 60-80g protein. I have drank a 12 oz protein shake made w/milk, but since I'm supposed to be sipping liquids all day I didn't figure it mattered if it was water or protein drink w/water or milk. This is confusing.0

So true!! That's where I am. My NUT also said if I use a protein shake as a 'meal' that I shouldn't do water 30 min before/after, just like I would a meal so that it is habit. I have an education class (3hours long) Monday - hope we talk about a few of these things!0
