Why do we get puffy with the thyroid problems?

You know, the term puffy is a great one. Thanks. That describes how I feel all over. I don't know if I'm going to be taunt ever again but I'm going to try this year. Between rowing and weights I want to see if it is possible. I feel judged by friends for the change in how tone I used to be and I've had several people (when I was newly diagnosed) ask if I was in fact pregnant. I can't tell you how that made me feel and at the time I felt so horribly just sick.
