B12 shots

I've been doing mine in my stomach because the hospital and my surgeon told me that I could just like I had done the blood thinners that way. My nurse friend thinks my B12 shot needs to be in a muscle like my arm. So tell me where does everyone else do their shots at?

I didn't have any post surg- but did after I had my child a few years ago- I just stuck myself in the thigh. It was the easiest for me to manage.

I don't do the injections, but my friend who had bypass gives herself B12 shots and she does it in her stomach.

As a nurse I have given lots of B12 shots. They can be ordered SQ (between the layers of skin- like you are doing) or IM (in the muscle). Either method is fine. How did your doctor order it? You should follow their instructions. What I would suggest is if you have a good effect the way you are doing it, then continue. If you feel it isn't really helping, talk to your doctor about giving it in the muscle. Administering in the muscle can be hard for people to do to themselves and you could have it done in the doctor's office if needed. Also, there are different sized needles for each so you want to make sure you are using the correct one.

I like it when the experts weigh in

I have a pretty small needle they ordered with the syringe that I use. They didn't order it to be given specifically a cetain way, just said "you can do it in your stomach how you did the hepran injections." Does not everyone take B12 after the gastric sleev? I can tell when its within a week of time to do another b12 injection because I'm exhausted with no energy. I chose the injection because I pay less than $5/month for it compared to remembering to take another pill a day.

My insurance covered 80% of the pill so I did it that way.
Im not good at swallowing pills (sensitive gag reflux) but Im more scared of needles, so the pill was the lesser of the 2 evils

I take my vitamin B12 as a sublingual dissolving tablet. It is 1000 mcg I take it twice a week and it is from Bariatric Advantage, it came in my post-op vitamin pack. I have bought a huge bottle from BJ's for 16.99 with a 3.00 off coupon. Nature's Made sublingual but it is 2500 mcg and I will only have to take that once a week. They just melt under your tongue, no swallowing a huge pill.
