Merry New Year! Planning a quiet evening here with the kids, except for doing some fireworks in the cul-de-sac. Time to get ready for the day.

Happy New Years Eve!!! A big congrats to the Fantastic Five Finishers:) Proud of everyone logging in.

Jen, As for the coat, you will not be alone if it happens. The BF bought me this great Columbia, fitted long coat two years ago and I can barely zip it and definitely could not put my arms out. I can't wear it and every time I see it I get angry >:)

TJ, Thanks!!! Yes, those evil little caps on those freebie glass containers. I am buying that OXO. We always had simple oil and vinegar until you guys posted recipes. Still like O & V, but the others mix it up and are yummy.

Kim, Hope you had fun in the Windy City and that it is not too windy. Talked with a friend from those parts and it is chilly. Regarding the StrongLifts 5x5, I am going to post in a separate post:)

Chris, thanks for the link. I am going to shoot out a separate post on the lifting. I took BCAAs when I was on a tough 12-week plan and I would swear they helped with DOMS, but it could be in my head. Let us know what you think of Unbroken. We watched a fun movie last night The Equalizer. Denzel was dreamy and kicked butt:)

DebSue, Turn that frown upside down. You are here, back at it, and not alone. The boyfriend baked peanut butter cookies last night and I am talking a ton of them. This happens whenever I am embarking on a healthy eating journey. I had some and more junk. Felt defeated last night and craving more. We got this! Love the Rocky theme playing. I even have a pair of his gray, cotton sweats on. Doing it old school style B)

Heron, Hopefully it is a good sore. A friend of mine does IF all the time. How do you like it?

Carol, Thanks but I am not much of a beast. haha The only way I can tackle the upcoming month is if I get some semblance of a routine in place. Clean eating never happens for me if I don't workout. In some ways it makes me fixate or have a some sense of control over one aspect of it and better for me to have that be working out over eating. Old ED surfaces otherwise. I am a mess. lol Anyways, it doesn't seem to be working since I ate crap all night!!! Hey, you were miss fitness competitor. There is NO way I could ever do that. Jealous that you did:))) You are a total beast with trying new things and although at times you may not see it, you are mega consistent. WOW!!!

I know I have forgotten someone. Sorry:( Hard to catch up sometimes. Wishing everyone a safe and awesome New Years Eve. If I am awake the boyfriend and I will do our little cheesy countdown and kiss. All while in the comfort of our home and cozy sweatpants. Yes, we are WILD!

    I'm sore today...
Haven't been doing the CNS protocol but have been doing the IF and pushing carbs to the evening.
Heron and Kim Might want to look at supplementing with BCAA's and Taurine Seems to help with DOMs

Kris, have you tried the Greek dressing I posted? It's my favorite. That's the one you see there in the OXO and vodka jug.

Everyone be careful out there, tonight. I'll be attending a party, but I probably won't be drinking, since I won't want to sleep over.

For all of the Whole 30 folks:

When is your official start? I'm making mine Jan 2, which will give me New Years day to make 1 more mistake, lol.

I'll start Jen's Jaunt tomorrow, though.

Chris & John - thanks for the BCAA recommendation. Gonna have to give that a try. Quads still sore- but this is my typical timing post workout for DOMS

Got 16k very cold steps in with kiddo yesterday. Walked Union Station to hotel (about 1.5 miles) then nearly 5 more miles shopping up and down Michigan Ave. he's a shopper. Not I. But he's also a saver - at least saving for shopping, so not all bad. Had a great time just spending one on one time with him. At 15 that's sometimes tough.

    Happy New Year folks!!!
  • Kris, you know we can do this. I will be checking the coat (more of a jacket) when I get home as I plan on taking my first Jaunt tomorrow morning. I'm guessing it's going to be 'form fitting'. Thankfully I have a hoodie I can wear instead that will allow me to breathe. You need to slap that boyfriend of yours. Making peanut butter cookies???? SLAP!!!!! :) As for NYE festivities, I'm right there with ya (minus the boyfriend). Warm pjs, couch, blanket and Netflix. It's party time at Jen's house! Whoop Whoop!

Downtown Chicago is cold in July! :) Glad to hear you both had a great time. That's awesome that you and your son got to spend some quality time together. Definitely not easy when they're teenagers. Funny how he's the shopper but you're not. Hehehe..

    Happy New Year!

Unbroken was an amazing movie. I recommend.

    Takeaways:
    • Remaining calm under stress
    • Be resourceful
    • Surround yourself with people who believe in you
    • Forgive

“A moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory.”

Did a crossfit workout yesterday instead of running because it was like 5 degrees and felt like -11 degrees.

    3 rounds:
    50 squats
    7 L-pullups
    20 med ball cleans (20lb)

It's a modified version of "Nasty Girls" which is one of the many named crossfit workouts. It was fun. I miss doing them and wish this wrist would get better so I could do more exercises.

Since today is another day where it'll be too cold to run and the treadmill is out-of-order I may just do 25 minutes of drills. Work on form, form, form in my living room. I say 25 minutes because I'm supposed to do 3 miles and I usually take 25 minutes or so to do that.
  • "Starting early to avoid the rush" ... Yep, that's me a jauntin' & a sippin' (water that is) & countin' those carbs! Yikes, I think I just dislocated my shoulder patting myself on the back. Lol! :) Happy New Years Eve, Guys. ~DebSue
  • Ordered pizza. Regretting it now, as it's not agreeing with me. I knew I should not have done it.

Morning All. Day 0 today then and roll into whole 30 Friday. Sounds good to me. Off to work early for me today but will be home early tonight.
  • Ok, wake up #2 for today. :) The Jaunt starts today. It's 11 degrees out and I am sooooooo not wanting to go outside. But I will do it! I must it!

    HAPPY New Year!

Started my day off Jaunting outside for a total of 3.8 miles. Jen, did you hear me cursing? I was! It is cold and windy here. Apparently next week we will have below zero temps. Oh JOY! (I despise winter)

Kim, I am starting StrongLifts 5x5 today. Had one heck of a time trying to figure what my 5 rep max at 50% would be (I am not the brightest bulb). Found this calculator and going with it: ivannikolov.com/calculators/rep-max-calculator/ http://
Looks like I am about 10 pounds over beginner weight on most. OH Press was lower. I have awful shoulders from numerous dislocations. Decided that I am just going to start with the beginner weights. Another tricky one is the squats. I may need to modify on the squats because of the ACL, but more so because of the huge baker's cyst behind my knee. Sometimes they go away, but mine did not and the surgeon said that he will get rid of it at surgery. Causes me to not be able to do a full depth squat.

    Excited for the New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone! It is 9:44 in the morning and I haven't eaten bad food yet! Woo hoo!
Seriously, I am challenging myself with a 100-day gong (a la The Health Bridge folks). Starting today, a minimum of 10 pushups per day for 100 days in a row. It's a small challenge, but one I want to do to improve my pushups so I get lower to the floor and can bring my hands closer.

Wishing you all a wonderful, healthy year!

Happy New Year everyone! Did my usual of watching the ball drop in a Times Squate (on TV) and then in bed at 11:15- the benefit of living in central time zone. It occurred to me this morning that I didn't drink any alcohol last night. That's a first in like 35 years of New Years eve. I know hubby gad brought home a good bottle of champagne (he's in the wine & spirits biz), so maybe we'll have tonight.

Tomorrow I start CarbNite reorientation....10 days ultraliw carb before my next carb Nite. And going to try to be as close as possible to AJs plan. Both in overall macros and in the balanced meals. I went back and listened again to when she was on Fat2FitHQ, and she specifically mentioned high fat breakfasts in women as a problem ( versus more balanced protein to fat...most would still consider a 4ogr fat breakfast high fat, I know).

As far as Whole30, I've done 3 in past. I'll support you guys, but not following. Other than cutting out alcohol during your whole30... And thinking about dropping heavy whip cream. We'll see on that tomorrow morning.

Oh and Carol dragged me into the FB group weight loss challenge. Anyone else doing it? I like that it has a strong habits component and is not solely about who can starve down to lowest weight over time.

    StrongLifts...

Kris, you are pretty much where I am on the weights. I started 10 lbs up on squats, bench, and deadlifts. At prescribed for barbell rows as I'd never done that exact move (usually do one hand bent over dumbbell). But had to drop to 35 on Shoulder press. My home bar is 35# ...started with it at 45, no go. Did first 3 sets at 40#. But was getting some bad form in 3rd set. Last two at 35#

Chris & John.....when do you take the BCAAs? After lifting? Before? With your general supplements ( I take some fish oil, CoQ10 type stuff AM & PM).

I plan to start my jaunt today, supposedly we have an ice storm coming so if I don't do it before then... well it won't happen! Lol
  • Kris, that was YOU? I thought it was my echo, since it was like 11 when I hit the pavement. OMG!!! But like you, I did it!

Kim, yes, Carol dragged me into the FB challenge as well. She's been learning tactics from John, it seems. Build a team that will crush all opposition. Go Team Fat2FitHQ! :)

Carol, yes I will be doing the water challenge. Heck, it's routine for me now. I haven't had anything but water in almost a month now. Very happy about that. I'm with ya on the FB challenge and will be watching the Whole30 challenge from the sidelines with Kim.

Way to go everyone on getting out there to Jaunt!

Kim, I am at 35 on OH Press. We are body doubles. Okay, I am a larger version... lol

Carol, I am already starting on the water. Four big glasses already consumed. Need to clean out the toxins from yesterday. I was a bad girl!

Cynthia, I will join you on the 100 days of push ups. It is lofty in my book!i

Off to lift. Give me strength!!!
