Boxing and then lifting?

Hi! I've just started a love affair with boxing classes. Should I incorporate strength training as well? Or am I getting what I need from hitting the bag? I go 4-5 days a week.

That depends on what you want to get out of it...what are your boxing/fitness goals? In general, I highly recommend strength training to go along with any cardio routine because there are so many benefits to building muscle. If you plan to fight, you will want to strength train as well, but you'll want to be a little more specific about what areas you train and when. Happy to hear you love boxing :) Good luck!
  • Yay for boxing!! Happy to hear that you are excited about it. I think one of the coolest things about boxing, and combat sports in general, is that the training incorporates all different types of fitness exercises. Even if you don't plan on actually fighting someone, if you train like you are going to, you will find yourself doing a lot of everything (cardio, strength training, etc.). I started boxing back in December. Since then I have shed 63lbs.! At first I wasn't doing much of anything except bag work, but as I've progressively lost weight, I have added a lot of running, push-ups, and ab work, along with the bag work. It's so addicting.

Thanks for the advice! My fitness goal is to shed the pounds and tone up. I'm finding that I'm losing inches, but the scale will not budge! Not sure if I'm not eating enough or what. I'm really going to focus on what I'm eating and figure out what the issue is.
