Excited for possibilities, but also a little discouraged right now.

I am excited for the possibilities that 2015 holds-from better health and more active lifestyle, focusing both on me and my relationships with others, to new adventures with work.

If I’m honest with myself though, I am battling a little discouragement right now. I promised myself a number of things when I decided to pursue WLS and gastric sleeve. Among the promises was that I would follow my surgeon’s plan and not think I was smarter or could make my own adjustments. Also, I would not stress over rate of loss or ‘stalls’ or any of the related concerns. However, tomorrow marks 1 month out-I lost 10 lbs in the first week while on clear liquids and virtually nothing since. I am getting my protein and water in and have a moderate level of activity. While I know I just need to keep plugging along, it does play with your mind and the thoughts of ‘great, I am the one person for whom this isn’t going to work’ creep in.

Overall I feel great and, while I miss veggies, I don’t find the program to be problematic. I am getting better at planning days and am looking forward to the holiday season being behind us so that that gets even easier. Anyway, thanks for listening (or reading), hope you all have a healthy and prosperous 2015.

You mentioned moderate activity. How about stepping up the activity? Even just walking. I notice that I lose when I get 10K steps a day or more. And until this past week all of my walking was just around the house, 15 minutes at a time.

That's why I don't check my weight at home, only at the Dr. Appointments. What I have seen is clothing not fitting the same, or not at all. I'm 5 months postoperative now. At my last appointment with my cardiologist I had lost 1 pound in 3 days. The good news is that I dropped below the 200 mark for a total of 76 pounds lost, I was surprised. I have 24 more to go. My rate of loss is dropping because of my exercise program has increased to where I'm adding muscle mass weight. My plan was to follow the directions from my Dr. just like you, but I'm waiting for the 1 year anniversary before I start doing my own thinking LOL

By moderate activity I mean walking 1 mile a day during the week, 2.5 on weekends, 2 barre classes/week, and taking stairs at work-about 16 flights/day.

Weeziebeth - hang in there. You can do this! I know what you mean about slow progress and stalls. It's frustrating and downright scary. But, I think the stalls are meant to help our bodies adjust to each new phase of our journey. I seem to hold on to stalls longer than most but I also did not gain this past holiday season (whoo hoo!). We will continue our journeys in 2015!!

I certainly have had moments of thinking "I am the one person in history this surgery won't work for." It's not true for me and it isn't true for you either. Our bodies are going to do weird things. They may lose, they may stall, I even saw one day the scale tried to tell me I had gained 3 lbs overnight! We just have to keep at it. Watching the calorie/protein intake and moving are the keys. Your body will come around, just give it time.
