I am trying to maintain my weight. I use a fitbit and MFP. I average between 10,000-16000 steps a day. I am confused as I end up with over 1,000 calories a day extra for exercise based on these steps. I have my activity level as sedentary on MFP. I am 5ft6 and a 37 year old female. What is going on?

Well, you are no where near sedentary walking that much along with your other daily activities, that's what's going on.

Since you didn't select the proper level to start the eating goal out with, MFP is correcting it with Fitbit's better estimate of what you burned for the day.

If you want to see less calorie adjustments to the day, then select an honest activity level on MFP, which is supposed to be outside of exercise.
And it'll be higher than Lightly Active, but start there a few days and see how high your adjustments still are.

Either pick one so that your normal non-big step days cause little calorie adjustment, or increase the levels so that your average day causes little.

Lets you plan better knowing at start of day what your eating goal will be.
