Happy Sunday Folks! Hope all is well with all of you.
Got home yesterday after three hour drive and crashed. JTD and I had our dinner and stretched out and nosedived into sleep. Got over 10.5 hrs feel good though my HRV reading came out yellow at 82.1 still gonna train. Feel too good not to and think not training would be more for a red day. Just gonna watch it today but still going heavy, may skip battle ropes at the end.

Visit with Maris was a good one yesterday she is up and about at home has bounced off the bottom fairly well has about 10-15lbs to gain back to be healthy. Was on IV feeding for 15 days then Picc tube for over a month Soft foods and getting her taste back is both good and challenging for her. She has great help and support at home so looking forward to end of Feb or early Mar for her return.

    Update from Last week -

Thanks All for the Congrats, and Thanks to this group, many here were part of my inspiration/motivation to do the training. Once I looked closely at Primal Blueprint I found it to be very similar to what I have been doing intuitively for myself, and the program by definition really doesn't leave room for the zealots that you find in so many other venues. Talks about Sensible indulgences and 80/20 sort of lifestyle that includes a great mix of movement, lifting, and play. With all of nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress recommendations science based. Highly recommend it to folks. It uses a 21 day transformation plan but I think Whole 30 has merit as well. As I liken it to Ranger Training in the Army, If you are successful with this difficult program you are one of the best. Since you will have faced some mental challenges that you don't encounter elsewhere.

Carol - Ok so you won't get your Whole 30 Tab

But information is power so use it wisely and use it as a tool not a crutch. We know you can. I would wish you luck on the school but you don't need luck; just focus and balance and you will do well.

Heron, Melatonin had the same effect on me, nothing a cup o joe couldn't fix, but problematic so I don't use it any more. What I've encountered is even with it, I don't sleep past my 0500 wake up time but easier to go back to sleep if I think I need more. if I want more sleep I just have to go to bed earlier and with my schedule can't do that during the week. Those dishes sound marvelous. gonna have to give em a go. JTD in His New Coat pictured at the Christmas Parade.

Kevin Great Job loved the Pics of your course you used the finest infantry rifle ever made in my view.

    Jen - U B Jammin'!

Chris- Good Run and yepper feels good after a break. I do miss a good 4-6 miler especially with a 40-60 lb ruck load. Oh well knees just aint got it any more.

Any way today is heavy lift day so got to work up my target weights on my log and get ready to go. See ya later and Keep on Jammin'!

Good morning everybody. Sunday morning and I'm treating myself to breakfast. No jaunting today to give my legs and my rear some rest. :). So happy I met my challenge despite the crazy cold the first couple of times out. Thank you everybody for the support. And to all of those who have joined me, ROCK ON!!! Or as John would say, U B Jammin! :)

After breakfast I'll finish up my weekly vlog, clean up the kitchen so I can mess it all up again making some soup, clean it up again and do some laundry. You know what, forget all that. I'm going back to bed!!!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

    Hey guys! Happy Sunday!

Yesterday was a good day. I'd bumped my monthly massage to 90 minutes which was heavenly. She is so good at finding and working out my kinks- generally either in my neck/shoulders , or IT bands in my legs, particularly during cycling season. IT band work hurts, so I'm glad when they aren't all knotted up ( hurts at time, but wonderful after).

at this point inStrong Lifts all my squats are PRs ( as long as I progress) yesterday was 90#. Well not easy, and I may be beginning yo have the straining squat face, I am still able to get full depth on all and push up. 100# will be a great milestone for me...but still a long way to go to a body weight squat. Deadlifts still well under my PR, but I understand why he progresses you as he does. Did the math and if one progressed as assigned in 12 weeks you'd go from a 45# squat to a 225# one. Given that I suspect there will be times one does not progress. Great program.

Jaunted with hubby post lifting to kill time for the hour before my PWO shake. Kiefer suggests letting the catabolic processes go for an hour after working out before stopping them with your post workout shake or meal. Makes some sense to me. Worked in a run into grocery for some skim milk for carb Nite on the walk.

Carb Nite. Kept it in calories range and somewhat close to macros AJ assigned. Fat for the day still too high. Need to cut out morning coffee ( w/ coconut oil & HWC) on CarbNite just do green tea.

Spike #1 - PWO protein shake made with skim milk & spiked with CarbShock (rather than my usual unsweetened coconut milk to up the sugar). Bowl of frosted flakes & skim milk

Power Nap. Hard blood sugar crash an hour later.

Spike 2 - sushi, a bit of hubby's fried rice

    Spike 3 two cherry turnovers.

Around 250 grams carbs, nothing excessive. But more than plenty. Don't feel like crap this morning as I often did on my all out carb nites.

  • Kim, I really need to schedule a massage. I've only had one and wow! Painful but well worth it. :)

Good to hear you don't feel bad after your CarbNite.

(Shameless self promotion). My weekly vlog is up.

John, you look like you're ready to move some heavy things! Reminds me of one of my favorite sayings:

If you want to get stronger, pick up heavy things and move them.

I've never had organ meat before. I will have to try it. I think you're right though. I might need to do some research and possibly find a new doctor. I only notice being super cold when I eat no grains.

Well a very good day on my Modified Strong Lifts warmed up with 5 min dynamic stretch top to toes, then 1 min plank, 50 BW Squats, 20 Pushups (Planks and pushups modified use the bench ) 30 bench leg lifts, Lifting warm up 10 reps each of 155# and 205, then 5 sets of 5 reps of the following Deadlift 245, Bench press 85, Zercher Squat 125, Seated Ovhd Press 75, Barbell Row 100. Total Weight moved today 19,350lbs. In seven months of lifting am now deadlifting, and ovhd pressing 25 reps of my initial 1RM (deadlift also happens to be my Body weight) never checked the 1RM zercher squat or Barbell Row, and only 5# away from my initial Bench press 1RM. Yes folks the de-conditioning was pretty complete when I started back. Don't know that I'll ever get back to what I could do in my 20's but will ultimately be the best me I can Be.

My B day will be Wed and that I do at home so the movements are the same but the weights are much less, still find I am able to progress each Sunday though so will do two more weeks then de-load for 1 week. Seems to be my best rhythm at my age.

Fridays are my Hammer Jammer Happy Hour usually warm up then Tabata set with 25lb Kettlebell swings, a tabata mile sprint walk, with a tabata set of Body weight rows on my TRX Straps to wrap it up. Missed it this last week but needed a bit of extra sleep.

Kim that was a great session for ya keep it up! Enjoy Following your progress on both CN and Strong Lifts.

jen going to watch your Vlog...
  • My Sunday is complete. Breakfast did NOT agree with me today. I guess I learned that perhaps going to the local 'greasy spoon' may be a thing of the past. Bad Jen for wanting a treat. :) Other than that, a good day. I made my soup, which wasn't too bad. It's all portioned out and ready for the week.

John, thanks for the comment on my vlog. We all B jammin! I'll be doing my official signup for the Vegas Tough Mudder on Friday. I think I've gone insane but Carol assures me I haven't (or wait, did she agree with me?). :)

I'm going to go read a little of the Well Fed book and find something on Netflix to keep me entertained before bed.

Hey John!!! I love my Whole30/Fat2FitHQ badge!!!!!
    Thank you!

Did everyone hear that Jen finished her 30 miles in 17 days?!
    Wow. Just wow!
  • Good morning everybody. Back to work.

Thanks Carol. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has hit 30 miles. Kris was awfully close that last I heard. Kris? Where are you? I feel like I accomplished something and I'll just keep going. I'll see if I can get to 45 now (that will be pushing it though).

Monday.....3 big meetings between today and tomorrow for that presentation I was fretting over all last week ( funding for a major remodel of the space to do our draught technical training program which my team oversees). Sent the pre-read last night, was a bit nerve racking... As everyone on the email was high ranking as in "C" level of a large corporation (including CFO). Until this recent job, I didn't play at that level. Yikes

But HRV this morning was really good. So I must be ready (or the carbs have settled in ☺️)

Great job on the jaunting Jen! I finally had a chance to listen to your vlog. Love Love LOVE the changed grocery cart talk. Keep that up. It's a true game changer!

    Morning all! Happy MLK Monday!

Hit about 1600 calories on Friday & 1100 calories yesterday. I was hungry between meals so I ate.
Waaay to much fruit after dinner I think. All berries but still thinking about that "not in season" thing.

Must Jaunt today! Jen is blowing past me!!! I'm only at 20 miles!!!

Hello everyone. Excellent weekend, my barn is about 90% complete after 3 months of trying!

Has anyone tried cooking with an electric pressure cooker. I had ordered on and cooked ribs in it Saturday night, man were they tender and juicy. Now I just need to come up with recipes that Jordan and I like. I holds 6 qts so I can make meals for several days.

~5.25 miles today... I didn't keep track. I actually had a running buddy! Track work 7:00 on 4:00 off. We were hitting a little over 3 laps each 7:00 so I think we were pacing between 8:00-8:30. Did a total of 1:06:00 on the track. He's a former HS runner so I'm looking forward to learning a lot from him. He wants to get back in shape, and I'm able to keep up with him in his present condition. I'm hoping I can find a race to do in March sometime...I really want to compete even though I probably won't win. I just really like it.

Lazy day off here. Went to the river and ate hot dogs and chips and dip. Back to strict eating tomorrow.
  • Good morning. Taking the day off today because it's my birthday!!!! :) I'm going to the range today to get in some much needed trigger time. I may even try to get a jaunt in as well.

Happy Birthday Jen! Have a great day and here's to an even better year ahead!

StrongLifts yesterday. It's getting hard! Those Barbell rows are awkward. I think form is beginning to suffer. Gonna have to consider not moving up next workout. Squats are heavy enough now that I'm wishing I had a better rack, one with safety bars. Or a spotter. Not so heavy that I couldn't drop them, but just the mental backup would be nice. Maybe for my birthday.

Happy Birthday Jen! Have an excellent day lass.

Chris Nice Run always good to have a running buddy.

Mark - Good news on the Barn, No experience with an electric one and just starting to use a stove top one. So learning a lot.

Kevin - Hope you had a good holiday!

Kim - You're doing great with the StrongLift program. Yep on the increases, it's a different process to ask yourself weather I can lift it at all, or can I lift it 25 times safely? Was looking at squat racks on amazon yesterday looks like a good one for 350 more or less. Looking hard at it but still improving with my modifications so gonna continue with current plan. I forgot to do my morning readiness HRV yesterday at wake up so did it after I got back from taking JT Dogg back to work (4hr round trip). HRV was 60.9 (no surprise) went out to jaunt a little later and did my HRV during the jaunt results 72.1 so even a 20 min walk can help reduce stress etc. This morning was 76.1 so continue with a lite day.

Carol - Watched the Podcast last night. Great info on your journey through this. Whole 30 is a life changing process, it has been for me, and not surprised it is working well for you. Good to see your mindfulness on the calories. I think you have a good plan, keep enjoying the foods you like. It looks more and more that you are moving intuitively into the Primal Blueprint way of eating. You've got the power!

    Happy Birthday Jennifer!!

Roads and trails here are ice packed due to the warm days and cold nights. It would be easier trying to do walks in an ice rink! Dogs are in a funk now since they are not getting to go either. Great time to start up my dry fire routine! Having issues trying to decide which pistol I want to run this year... oh the choices a shooter must make!

I did not even know they made electric ones Mark. Makes sense, just never knew. Good work getting on that barn.

Happy Birthday Jen! Have fun at the range. What are you shooting today?

Chris it's nice reading your run time.

Kim do you still need the ingredient list for the bone broth? Sounds like you are doing great on the strong lifts.
    How did the presentation went?

John your workout routine is just fantastic!

I've been doing the run/walk thing and have decided to take running out of my routine right now. My body can only handle one high impact activity right now, I keep aggravating old injury. Maybe when my last 10-15lb is finally off it might make a difference? It's not that I love running, (I don't dislike it either )but it's a great way for me to build up endurance for me and the dogs

Arturo is in Vegas right now having fun, yay and I swear Rosie (who is sooooo Arturo's dog) was mopy because of it.

Mark, I remember Kim cooked short ribs in a pressure cooker but I don't remember if it was an electric one. Kim?
Yeah I kinda want to get an electric pressure cooker so that I can can small batches since we won't need to can large quantities. But I chose a convection counter oven instead. I need a bigger kitchen lol. My dream kitchen is lots of counter space, efficient cabinets, induction cooktop, convection oven, country style sink and a marble workstation that is lower than the counter for when I am working with any dough.

Mark and Heron, Yes, I have an electric pressure cooker. I haven't used it as much as I should, but it works so great. Makes great bone broth (or stock) in 90 minutes versus the 24 hour simmer I was doing. Adapted one of my fav short rib recipes from Michael Chiarello's Bottega restaurant in Napa County, doing the many hour braising in under an hour, I think like 45 minutes. The linked recipe has yu grilling/smoking them...the version I have and he did on Top Chef was braising them.

Need to use the pressure cooker more!

    michaelchiarello.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Smoked-and-Braised-Natural-Short-Ribs-with-Roasted-Cipollini-Onions-and-Smoky-Jus1.pdf

Heron...I remembered that I used your bone broth recipe with the Thanksgiving Turkey carcass, so could narrow the date range. Found it. This is perfect pressure cooker recipe. 60-90 minutes is all you need.

John, for the bone I recommend a pretty common "Chinese style" Chinese believe that you heal with food and all the spices have anti inflammatory, antioxidant and GI benefits
Star Anise, cloves, fennel, ginger, tumeric, cinnamon. Get good quality bone and low simmer for At least 10hr.
    For a 6-7quart pot
Sauteed 2 chopped onions, 4 cloves garlic 1-2 carrots chopped 1-2 celery chopped
10 start anise, 6 cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 TBSP fennel, 2 4inch piece ginger, 2TBSP Tumeric powder, Salt to taste. add water bring to boil then simmer for at least 10hr.

And with you on the dream kitchen! Have a very similar list including the marble dough area, but want a gas cooktop with grill under a hood, maybe an additional couple of induction burners, and a double oven.

Speaking of which Jen, I watched your soup episode....cute kitchen!

Ha! I need to purge mine too. But I'm wearing them!!! Okay but next time they are too big, for sure I'm tossing them. If I have to buy new clothes, it serves me right. I should not need a yo-yo wardrobe!
You know it really makes me nervous that you guys watch the videos. I mean we leave them out there, and we make sure and say that they are unedited…But still, I had to cut out a whole part where I was talking about how we all want to lose muscle vs "weight"
Lose muscle?!? I meant fat of course. Said it twice. Lol
  • Thank you everybody. Great day. No work, time at the range and then just lounging around trying to keep up with the SHOT Show posts on FB and YT.

Heron, took my CZ 75 pistol and Vz.58 rifle to the range. I call them 'Czech Awesomeness' (I'm weird). :)

I would love to purge my "fat" clothes but I'm unfortunately still wearing them. That's going to change soon, I know. I still have plenty of "skinny" clothes to remind me of where I once was (and where I'll get back to). Probably have 4 different sizes, so plenty to wear when I get to certain weight and body levels.

Carol, you know I try to watch them 'live and unedited'. My show is unedited, since I don't make podcasts. What you see live is what you see later on. Hehehe... Funny, I didn't even notice you said 'lose muscle'. DOH!

Jen is "Czeching out" at the range!!! LOL My primary Production Division and 3Gun pistol is a 75B, with a P-07 for CC and night shoots. I would LOVE a 58.. those are sweet rifles. Of course my 1911's and CZ have learned to get along..

Looking at the mountain behind the house, it looks like I can get in some serious vertical walking in without all the ice issues. Here goes nothing!!
