Hi there; I've used myfitnesspal for several years now and am just now getting the nerve to reach out to others using the program.
I wanted to join a group to share my struggles and successes with and this seemed like a good one. I didn't want a group where there are challenges and contests. I don't do well with competition. I just do what I can do and try not to beat myself up if I mess up.
Tell me about yourselves.
You can see from my profile that I have cancer and have been on steroids since June 2013. I've progressively gained about 2-3 lbs. per month since I started on the steroids. Finally, when I hit 267 (previously my high weight was 245 - I was horrified and depressed at what I thought my future would hold) I happened to have the privilege of participating in a group hypnosis session. I walked away feeling lighter in spirit than I had in a long time AND the hypnotist worked with cancer patients on all kinds of medical issues, including weight control. I started working with him and can attribute my 17 lbs. weight loss to his guidance.
I still have to count my calories and carbs (because I am diabetic now thanks to the steroids) and because he advocates having an accountable system of monitoring what I eat. I still have to plan means and "eat like an adult" i.e., no candy, cakes, icecream, etc. If I'm really hungry, eat a real meal! So it's not like "the easy way" or anything. More, like he has opened my mind to being more aware of myself and opened my willpower to be able to think about better options.
What's your story?
