Question about squats

I have a question about my squats. I do not really feel the burn or muscle soreness in my glutes so I must be doing something wrong. I have had a personal trainer watch while I do them and he said my form is good so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I typically feel it in my thighs, both quads and hamstrings, even in my inner thighs. Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Are you going to parallel? That makes a big difference in how much your glutes are activated. Also, focus on your hip drive when you are coming up out of the squat and squeeze your glutes.

I do go to parallel. I guess I never thought about actively trying to squeeze my glutes. Usually I'm just focused on getting back up. lol I go back to the gym tomorrow and will try to really focus on using my glutes to get back up. Thanks.

Are these low bar or high bar squats? The lower the bar, the more your posterior chain will be engaged. Though I suspect the amount of soreness you feel might have to do with which of your muscles are strongest. If your quads and hip flexors are relatively weak compared to your glutes, then that's where you will feel the lift.

I'm not really sore after squats, and wasn't really until I got heavier. Muscles being sore afterwards isn't always a sign of a "good workout", so it may even be as simple as that.
