Hi
I'm looking for friends that are going through the Sam etchings I am and understand the daily struggle of keeping sugars in range, while excercising. I've been working on the same 15 pounds for 1 1/2 years. I must be missing something!

It's tough, no doubt. I have both type 1 and type 2 and find that I'll lose a little bit of weight and then must treat lows until I can get my rates adjusted properly... by then, I've gained back some of what I lost. Unfortunately, I just have to lose slowly in order to be safe with lows.
I'll send a friend request.0 -
The Daily Struggle I know. I've been fighting 25 pounds like crazy! Sometimes working out makes my sugar shoot up, sometimes it makes it dumps quickly - makes me not want to even workout; which isn't going to happen. The other day I was at the Y with my 5 year old & we were going to go swimming so I did a sugar check, it was 250 so I did 4 units figuring the exercise would lower it the rest of the way (flex pen). We swam for about 1 1/2 hours then got out so I checked my sugar, it was 35!! I was in a panic being in the locker room, wet suits & all, alone with my son & I only had 3 glucose tabs...I was so scared of passing out leaving my son alone. Needless to say I quickly got us half way decent enough to get to the front desk to get an OJ to chug. I will always exercise, but the things people take for granted. Do I have my insulin, my glucose tabs, a Gatorade, what's my sugar, do I have enough strips, my meter...on & on. The Daily Struggle is real. Feel free to send me a friend request, it helps to know you are not alone.0

I carry the bottles of glucose tablets, but sometimes run out. The worst low I had, which was a chronic low over a 12 hour period, would have taken more than 150 glucose tablets if I calculate the >600g of carbs divided by 4g per glucose tablet (I treated with food after running out of the 10 glucose tablets I had).
I just recently realized that I was down to 2 bottles left (1 in the car, and 1 in my hiking bag that I moved to my work desk with I ran out there), so I replaced them. I now have a bottle at work, in the car, in my gym bag, and at home. I'll share my home bottle with my hiking bag.
Anyway, I really hate how hard it is for type 1's to lose weight. For years, I didn't even think it was possible, but MFP has helped me finally get started. It is very slow going, but it can be done.0 -
I always have my glucose tabs with me. I usually carry a travel size bottle with me that I just refill from my large bottle of tabs, but somehow missed refilling it that time. I really need to just throw a big bottle in my gym bag & buy a separate meter & strips just for my bag... I know it is possible to loose weight with diabetes, just not easy. Consistency is key!0

I feel exactly the same - I always end up running a bit high when I take my son swimming as it worries me having a hypo in the pool. I am too struggling with lows - which means more calories - and it drives me mad!0
