Very cool Kim. Great to hear that MC is such a diverse company. Interesting considering that I would think that the breweries would be very conservative. Sign of the times and it's all good.
Mark, I rubbing off on you? Hmm, not sure I like the sound of that! Are you talking about the event I went to last weekend? I only have one picture that I took. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=280536485404053&set=a.162058183918551.5455.100003431107290&type=1&theater

Hey all! It's been forever since I logged in. That darn Jen keeps reaching out and pulling me back and the universe keeps sending me messages.
Jen, you are rocking that LBD!
Carol, Thought about you yesterday. A coworker sent me something about an upcoming conference they want me to work. It's the ASCD conference in Houston. Figured you would probably attend that one. Talk about worlds colliding. haha Unfortunately I am working the TESOL booth in Toronto on March 25-28 so doing ASCD would be too much for me. I can't handle that right now. How cool would it have been to meet you!!!
Will catch up with all of you later. Always thinking of the gang and have missed you and desperately need to get my stuff together. (((hugs))) and sending powerful vibes to all of you!!!

Happy Chinese New Year Folks! Not sure which number year it is on that calendar but have a happy year of the Goat!
Jen's Jaunter Podcast is out on the street. Give a listen and enjoy. Great work Jen and Carol.

Oh Kris, you know that we miss you. I'm only doing what everybody else wants to do I'm sure, get your little behind in here to at least say hello to us. Thank you so much for your kind words. That was soooooo scary at first, wondering if I could pull off the look in that dress. My feet were KILLING ME though. :grimacing:
I caught that podcast. Who the heck was running that show? She seemed to be completely clueless, at least until Carol came in and saved it. Seriously though, thank you to Carol for letting me guest host the show for her, as I really wanted to talk to some of my fellow Jaunters. And thank you to Chris, Kim and John for joining me and sharing your Jaunt experience. It was so wonderful to get the chance to talk to all of you. I had so much fun.0 -
Mark, just chiming in and telling us random thing of your day is fun too! (Almond butter blondes.. Yum )Glad to hear from and Kris again!
Yay Chinese New Year and this is my year. I'm a goat0 -
Chinese New Year is the only time of the year where I get a little nostalgic. Memories of busy streets lined with chrysanthemums, Cherry blossom and mandarin fruit trees. All the Chinese sweets are out on display and Everything is in red and gold. In the distant you'd hear Chinese drums and cymbals as there's always a small performance of lion dancing. There is a thick air of excitement as people get ready for a week long celebration. I've never felt that same energy in any other holiday.
Arturo used to work for a company that dealt primarily with Chinese and even if they are in the middle of project, come Chinese New Years everything shuts down for a week. lol
So Happy Chinese New Year to all!0 -
Jen, I am asking about your training class you ran or were in a few weeks ago. You do look awesome in the dress0
-
Kim, so you were on CBL during your vacation and are you going to have to do the induction again?0
-
Heron. I'm calling it CBL. I had carbs three nights. Two of which were dessert. And ate a sandwich for lunch on Sat. I said I'd do reorientation but not committed. Meaning if I'm back under my last weight by Sat morning im having a carb Nite. If not, I'll push it off another week. I guess either way not a true reorientation. Want to keep Sat CN. So 7 days or 14 days.
Interestingly enough I bonked when skiing the day I took a full day lesson. Lessons push me harder and longer than usual but I still found it surprising. Probably didn't eat enough for breakfast or lunch. But by 3:00 I had the shaky, low blood sugar depleted feeling. Coulda (and probably was) been dehydrated too. Not to mention altitude.0 -
Mark, I love your post. Love that you love the group, love that you're trying new things and even love the sarcasm. It all made me smile.
You don't have to post regularly but just know bag smiles are powerful & you give me one today.0 -
Haha on the heels comment. I don't wear them too much anymore, but they sure make calves look great! It's funny because I pin all of these dream heels that I will never wear. I am also a lover of high heeled boots. Ahhhh! You did a fantastic job with the podcast. It was strange for me being in the chatroom. You have some super followers! It was cool to hear all of you. Like old friends.
Heron, Happy Chinese New Year. Thanks for sharing your beautiful memories. It is on my bucket list to experience:) I dream of visiting China and Japan. The company I work for gives us a trip after 20 years there (I am at 26 years now and haven't taken it yet). My top three choices are Africa, Japan, and China. How do your fit all three in two weeks??? lol I am still kicking myself because awhile back I was supposed to go to China to source products, but a project came up and I couldn't do it.
Woke up to a balmy 11 below zero temp. Lovely! Went downstairs to do some treadmill and it is so cold down there that my nose was running.0 -
Brrrr Kris!
Stay warm!!
Jen DID do a great job on the podcast! So appreciate her. It was so nice of you to be watching and weighing in from cyber land too!
Okay now... It is time to weigh in for my weight loss challenge & the week was off a bit with Valentine's Day & low activity. Trying to set my mind not to let the number depress me if I'm up or the same as last week. We REALLY need to do a no-scale challenge!!
Here goes nothing...0 -
No gain!!! In fact, a small, healthy 1.8 lb loss.
I laughed a lot this week. That's what I attribute the progress to. I'm not even kidding. I know you guys agree.0 -
Good morning (well its good until I get on the scale). Great job Carol!!!! Maybe I'll get lucky and not have a gain, but I'm not very hopeful. As I said yesterday in the FB group, it's just a bump in the road.
Mark, I forgot about that. No video unfortunately. The location wasn't optimum for video.
Kris, I gave up on the taller heels as well but I didn't have any others that would work with the dress. Soooooo, after probably two years of wearing flats or low heels, I brought those out. Yep, wasn't smart but darn it, I didn't care!!!!
Thank you (AGAIN) for the kind words regarding my chat hosting. It's so weird still thinking that I do these things. But I enjoy it.
Ok, off to go weigh. It you all loud screaming and crying, don't worry its just me.....0 -
I posted this on the FB challenge page and thought I would share my thoughts here.
It was a horrible week for points but I somehow only gained 0.6lbs. I will chalk that up as a win, actually! Time to get back to it this last week of the challenge. I'm down 13lbs in 7 weeks, so I am by no means disappointed with my progress (my goal for the challenge is 12).
One thing I didn't do this week, even though I really wanted to was to have a Coke. Twice this week I almost bought one but I talked myself out of it. It's been at least 3 months since I've had any soda and I don't want to go back down that path (the withdrawals were tough).
We're on the last week now. Kudos to everybody who has joined the challenge and stayed in there, despite the hurdles. We can ALL do this!0 -
Funtastic Friday Folks! Operation RED TOP today. We just came off my year I'm a Horse. This is what the pundits say about horses - Horses love life and are sexual, charming, popular and temperamental. They are beautify and well-kept. They have characteristics as hard working, loyal and persistent. They are good in conversation and always have the latest gossip and news to share. Horses are very social and regardless of choice of profession it will always involve close cooperation with others. Horses are extremely competitive and must win at any price. They are energetic and hard fighters, but foremost they value their freedom.
Carol - Happy week for ya, looks like hanging upside down on a black sheet is some good methodology for ya. If I remember right we should be hearing some good stuff from you about nearing your goals.
Kris - Good to see ya here. Keep warm kiddo.
Cynthia - Be gentle with your dust bunnies, they might be a fav aunt or uncle come back to visit with ya. Never know.
Well TF is still in place 35 days. Looks like the weight gain topped out at 20lbs for me. Still can't say I quite understand it all since my intake was not much higher, and meal composition didn't change much either. FMG is still out of whack, but the trend is good. Asked my Urologist about it all and she found it all very interesting but her answer was "I don't know I'm a plumber not an electrician" We actually spent a fair bit of time talking about her marathon training. She's in her early 40's doesn't over do it with the races, and I've been helping her train smarter. Next follow up is in 6 mos (good timing for her fall race training) then annually after that.

Good morning everyone! It was two years ago today that I gave up eating grains other than the once a month occasion when it was socially necessary or a big treat (sushi, etc.). Since then I've had no pasta and no bread, and rarely something other than rice. I've upped my protein intake, all from good sources. I'm eating loads of veggies, and fruit only once or twice a week. I try to keep my carbs under 70 per day, almost all if which is from the veggies (so net carbs about 40 - 50). I also started eating more healthy fat. I started weight lifting. I'm walking at least 10000 steps per day.
Sounds good, right? Well, my weight today is one pound less than my weight two years ago. Yes, I am stronger. But my clothes don't fit better and I haven't lost inches and I don't look better. I don't have a lot to lose - I'd be over the moon if I dropped 15 pounds - but I really do want to release some of that weight.
So, it is time for a change. I'm thinking of trying a more traditional weight loss system. Still lower carbs than the SAD, but not so restricted. Maybe some oatmeal for breakfast, and a piece of fruit each day. Keep up the fat. Don't push the protein but have plenty. Lots of veggies.
I had oatmeal this morning for the first time in two years. Boy, did it taste good to me! I'll let you know how it goes.
My big fear is a return of brain fog. That will be the deciding factor about the grains.
Comments and ideas are welcome!0 -
John, I'm quite sure that weight change is all inflammation (or mostly). Your body is in total upheaval, and inflammation is such a common reaction. I continue to believe you need to back it all down a few notches. Take a week off (really I think a couple) of working out. Stop the intermittent fasting. Just relax. Walk. Not fast, not incline, not with a rucksack, slow, consistent movement. Even better outside in nature. Meditate. Sleep. Let your body heal.0

Hi all! Today is a good day no matter what the scale says when I weigh in. I am feeling better, feeling stronger and my wife returns from her business trip after a week of being gone. So I am happy, happy, happy! We will see how happy I am after my weigh in....0
-
Just a quick good morning before heading out to my mom's.0
-
Happy Saturday Folks. Hope all is well from coast to coast.
Jen - Hang in there on the no sodas kiddo. You've done well on the challenge so an early congrats.
Cynthia - Sounds like a good plan do what works til it doesn't any more than try something else. I'm pretty much in the same boat so once my metabolism settles a bit may try something similar. I would still try to avoid the carbs in the morning though. Lot of good science supporting keeping them later in the day.
Carol - Never underestimate the power of laughter or a even smile for that matter. Congrats on the 1.8 !
Tom - you've got a great reason to be happy don't let whatever the scale says change that. Be happy yur huny is home. You are a lucky fellow.
Kim - thanks and interesting advice. What you described is how I've been doing my walking, all my ohter steps are just the neccessary ones for my job. Haven't been focused on step goals etc since our last Fitbit challenge. I saw one of my 'Fitness' Docs in the Fitness Center yesterday. I'm not one of his patients, he is one of my clients. Told him about what was going on he said about the same thing except to follow the HRV guidance on exercise, but also to put my glucosometer away. He is about 5'8" tall weighs around 155# in pretty good shape for a guy in his 50's. His A1c is 6.3 and as far as he's concerned that;'s pretty good. Said for a 60 year old 6.0 is damn fine. The smoking cessation metabolic war is going to go on for a while so just ride the dragon and hold on tight. I think it's also interesting on the reaction I get with the Docs when my smoking cessation comes up. Both the medical and mental health substance abuse docs, have the same response, Encouragement, followed by what aide are you using? None? (Big Surprise look especially after 3 weeks) Then How are you feeling? You want some drugs? I tell them no and why I don't, and the look on their face goes from clinical interest to ( not sure how to describe it ) respect(?) is pretty cool. I get a fair bit of motivation from those encounters. It doesn't make me 'feel' any better just adds to the motivation.
Well nuff said have a great day Folks

John, I really wasn't focused on your walking. I think the walking and work movement is great.
You know realistically you have not gained 20 pounds of fat in 5 weeks. Let's say your metabolism slowed by 25%, what's that down 1000 calories a day ( which is pretty big jump- assuming you had burned 4000 a day). If you ate the same, moved the same math says 10 lbs of fat max. ( I even doubt that). Which means half of your weight gain is inflammation. Probably more, you said on the podcast that you gained 10# in 3 days. I read you're struggling with all this and also that you're doing a modified StrongLifts which appears to be modified with extra lifts, plus doing some experiments with fasting. In my mind, putting that all together is a giant ball of stress, unnecessary at this point as you work thru the tobacco thing. My suggestion was to stop the lifting and the fasting, even IF for a bit. Eat regular balanced meals. I'm in agreement with the doc about putting away the blood sugar meter, again it was becoming a stressor. In no way was I implying you were unhealthy, just that you should completely deload for a week or two. Completely. We can agree to disagree, you know me always pushing minimal effective dose.

Meanwhile, on the post vacation weigh in front, down 1.5 since last time I weighed on this scale two weeks ago. So I guess CarbNite it is. Lower than my reported FB challenge weight, which was a guess. I've worked hard to stop obsessing about the scale, and the extra weigh in weekly was bothering me. I knew I wasn't in the challenge to win, and basically reported the prior weeks weight. The challenge has taught me that I do all the points things naturally, it's how I live my life. The only real points I've lost have been that arbitrary soda thing that includes sparkling water, and my first chocolate in months during the wrong week. I think the challenge is great, and was quite affirming in the reinforcing all these habits. The goal I sent the organizer at the start was to use the challenge to focus on my plan, and to not have the challenge derail me for extra points. The extra weigh in felt I was doing that. Kinda silly I know.0

"Quick" post from my phone. Picked up our foster "Bravo" (the one that had surgery to put plates and screws due to a broken leg) from the vet yesterday. Everything looks good and he should heal. My dogs don't like it when another dog is "coned" Bravo was a backyard and needs lots of doggy social skills and training. But he loves people and is a goofy boy. He stinks too! Since we can't give him a bath I had to wiped him down. I feel bad because we have to keep him sedated so he can let his leg heal, there is no other way to restrict movement to a 1 year old dog.
