Confusion with where to log

I have read multiple comments about where to log exercises and I am still having problems. I did a 25 minute cardio workout. I pushed the button on my FitBit to start and stop. Where do I log it? I tried MFP with the exact time and they are showing twice in FB. I would just log it all in FB but I can't change the names of workouts, or can? I am so confused and ready to take this thing back. Help!!

For the time being, you probably need to leave the name of the workout unchanged. I did do an experiment and if you change your FitBit to display in 24-hour mode, then it is safe to change the name of a workout (although I'm not sure about that if you try to change the name of the workout the next day - that might still mess it up). For now, I've decided that I'd rather not change the workout name and have a 12-hour style time display than keep converting from 24-hour to 12-hour whenever I check the time.

Whether you change the name or not, (whether you even log it in FitBit using the button) the workout itself will not show in MFP, just the calorie adjustment. It's not a good idea to log it in MFP. I gave up trying to do that long ago - it either shows twice, or overwrites the FB data I want to see. Just log things that your FitBit can't detect properly - weight lifting, swimming, bicycle riding, yoga, etc.

What's showing twice in Fitbit is a workout synced over from MFP, whose calories replaced whatever Fitbit had. Of course you made it match.

And an activity record, which is merely the stats for that block of time viewed by themselves, which of course you made match.

But the record is NOT added to the daily total, it is a view of some of the stats FROM the daily total.

That workout logging REPLACED what Fitbit had. Which again, you made match.

    So no double counting.

And also double unnecessary work. Just leave it alone.

If you aren't likely to go review your workout records in the future (you may like to eventually though), you don't even need to use the button to make a record. Everything is still in the daily stats, and still delivered to MFP for it to do math with.
