The Big 2015 Road Racing Chat Thread

Well - seeing as lots of my challenges are based around the Pro Riders Race Itinerary, it sort of seemed a good idea to start up a little "chat thread" for all the discussion of how the "real" races have gone while we're out there riding our own little versions of the race...

So, with a view to that, here's a little spreadsheet with the UCI's Race Itinerary...

(I've taken the liberty of highlighting the races that crop up in our little challenges ;) )

So, this weekend we've got a couple of the early one-day euopean races coming up...

    Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
on Saturday and Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne on Sunday...

It'll be interesting to see how some of the "classics lads" are going in the run up to the slightly more prestigious events in the next few weeks...

I'm particularly happy to see Ian Stannard back on the start sheet for both races this weekend, though as Wiggo's apparently riding, who knows if he's going to be let off the leash to go for it this year... Actually, Sky does seem to have a pretty strong team with Stanny, Wiggo, Big Bernie and Andy Fenn, but - Ettix look like they've come "loaded for bear" as well...

Brilliant Mark, thanks for the spreadsheet. I am hopeful that the Spec Diverge I ordered many moons ago will be here shortly, perhaps in time for the Strade Bianche. I have have an appropriate route for that ride mapped out. Of course if I do get it, I will equip it with Challenge Strade Bianche tyres for the occasion :)

I had a great weekend last year with the Italian Races... spent a good week beforehand in recce's finding all the bits of offroad, towpath, bridleway and sustrans I could get, then strung them all together and stuck the video camera on the handlebars for proof of "strade bianche authenticity"

I think the planning was half the fun - https://www.strava.com/activities/118655468/overview - Route was "somewhat contrived"...

Agree, I always enjoy planning my routes on RidewithGPS. I'm lucky that I have literally thousands of miles of gravel roads through the mountains near me, often with with small chapels by the roadside :) I'll definitely be mounting my Virb to the bars and hopefully get some wild gravel descents :D

In fact I just finished mapping this little loop. Almost 100% on gravel with lots of climbing and great views too. ridewithgps.com/routes/7074054

Thanks for the spreadsheet, I made a short list of my own, but yours was far more comprehensive. Realized to my chagrin that I volunteered to work an extra shift the day of the Strade, so not only do I not get the time to ride, I don't get to do enlist my Google-fu to find a feed of the race. Oh well, looking forward to the Classics again this year.

Anyone in the US know of decent feeds for these races? TV coverage is minimal and all I have found in years past is pirate feeds of the races, and those are more hassle than anything.

Iirc the Italian races were streamed live on Rai last year, and I'm pretty sure they weren't locked to Italy only...

They were of course commentary in Italian, but that's no problem is it :)

Cheers TBY; especially for the streaming options. I've ditched Sky as it was costing me too many bicycle bits tokens ;)

It has been far too long since I wandered around in the forums here. Thanks TBY for reminding me it exists. Now for some consistency on my part.

Settled down new with a bottle of leffe brun and the last 71km of today's race... Sometimes being off the bike isn't quite so bad.

For those of us stateside, USN and BEIN are carrying a lot of the races. Cycling TV has a good number or rebroadcasts as well.

I'm can't believe I'm going to be out for this weekend. Unless my wife brings me my shoes, I'm done. I got to work and realized I am missing my shoes. I won't be off until Monday so this weekend is a bust.

Strade Bianche Live on Eurosport in around 2 minutes from now... 13:15GMT - rebroadcast Eurosport at 22:30GMT tonight or 11:45GMT on Eurosport 2.

Other streaming sources - have a look on steephill.tv

Oh - and despite the Roma Maxima being cancelled, I think we'll still run our "virtual version"...
