I was just on a kick that I was going to load slowly so I could practice proper form and not get hurt, and I'm so smart, blah, blah, blah.

Well I added in hyperextensions on one of those roman chairs and I think I have hurt myself. Are these bad for your back? I've seen conflicting info on the internets.

I have a desk job. And I can barely stand up if I'm sitting for longer than a few minutes. I have to walk all hunched over and get moving to get the pain and stiffness to subside before I can stand up straight. Has this ever happened to any of you?

    Not sure about this...

But I sure experienced this! That happened to me after a horse ridding accident. It was sciatica. PT had me following back stretching exercises and take Aleve to relieve pressure and pain. But in my case that was only temporary relief. After 2 1/2 yrs of pain my girlfriend draged me to her chiropractor and been pain free since.
So sorry, I know how painful that is!!

I can't weigh in on the good or bad for your back on the hyperextensions. I've done them before will no ill effects.

I've had the stiffness issue. I would suggest going to see a chiro to see if it's an alignment issue. I would also self-"medicate" with yoga for hips and lower back. I often get lower back pain when my hip flexors are too tight. I really like sleepy butterfly pose, happy baby, and legs up a wall. Those have helped me when I have lower back pain.

ETA: I'm not a medical doctor. Use your best judgement to see if yoga would be good for your body or not.
  • I'd go to the doctor. Don't want to risk exacerbating a back injury

Ice the area when you can to take care of inflammation and see a doctor about it. I have had much neck pain in my life. I love my 2 chiropractors I have had. They always tell me to ice the area, not apply heat. You may have pulled a muscle, very painful. Hope that you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone. This is definitely just a muscle strain. I know it's not sciatica or anything serious that warrants a dr visit. I'm going to stretch and rest. Totally bummed that the wise thing to do is not lift for a few days. (good pose suggestions xcalygrl!).
