    Good Sunday morning everyone!

Carol, you looked BEAUTIFUL in the wedding pictures. Your dress was stunning! WOWWoWWoW The wedding looked tons of fun, and what great remembrances - the photo booth and slippers.

In other news- I dusted off the StrongLifts app, and my weights and got busy yesterday. The app had a built in de-load ( which shouldn't have surprised me, Mehdi seems to have thought of everything). I didn't realize until too late that in addition to prompting me to deload 50%, it had only calculated that on squats. Or maybe when I overrode the 50% recommendation of 55# and only went down to 75# it screwed up the in app calculations. Which meant I not only did not deload the deadlifts. I added weight. They were tough. Still it felt great to get back under a bar. The reloaded weights are ones I am comfortable under without a power rack or spotter. Year end bonus hits in a couple of weeks, will get serious about a power rack at that point.

Carb Nite was good. The place we went to for dinner makes their own pasta..in addition to sauces and such. The bolognese is amazing. Really rich. He uses a combination of beef eye of round, veal, and "antibiotic free, pasture chicken". And must simmer forever. I've tried and tried to recreate at home. I'm close but his has a richness I can't quite get. And a perfect ration FB eat to sauce to noodles. Yum. Yum.

Heron- I'm so sorry to hear about your knee. Rest and recover. You're such a badass, (that's a heartfelt compliment believe me) which makes it all worse. Now to figure out what activity can continue to challenge your competitive nature, satisfy your strong body and protect your joints. Hmmm...
  • Happy Sunday and Happy March. Although looking out my window, it looks more like February. Lazy Sunday here at the Jen home. It's 9:30 and I'm still in my pjs.

Weighed in and totally shocked. Down 1.2lbs from last week (down almost 2 lbs from Friday). Very happy about it for sure. Started the March maintenance challenge as well as the veggie challenge. Can't wait to hear what others try this month. I told my mom about it and she said the same thing I did (I didn't even know there were 30 vegetables). We are so alike. :)

Ok, I should probably get out of bed. Have a great day!
  • OMG Kim, Carol looked amazing. And the dress.....

Jen congrats! Yay!! I'm so happy and excited for you. Isn't losing weight kinda addicting? ;)
Kim, thank you for your compliments :D
Right now I'm going to start kettlebells. We just bought some last night and I'll start there. Maybe I can do boxing? I can't kick but I might be able to box. Idk... I need to strengthen my legs right now. Due to my anterior pelvic tilt and my mountains of injuries my muscles are not balanced. So my joints are carrying a lot of load I need to strengthen and train certain muscles so that it will be my muscle carrying the load and not my joints. As it should be. Our body is "lazy" it like to find short cuts for us to compensate.
Sounds like you are all ready to get back into strong lifts. *high five*
We like the same restaurants! There is a lot of restaurants in the Bay Area that sources local pastured meat and organic produce from local farms. This is a great place to live, great climate, beautiful parks, shorelines and mountains plus a rich arts and technology scene. The downside is cost of living. I was talking to someone and they are paying $2000 for a 500 sq feet apartment in a suburb town 20miles from the Silicon Valley. Idk how people can afford to raise children here. But people do...

Carol, post a picture here. I wanna see!
  • Thank you Heron. It is addicting for sure. :)
I remember a coworker who left to go work in San Francisco during the dot.com boom. She sold her house here and was going to be living with 3 other people because of the living costs. Sounds to me like taking a step backwards. I'm a small towner though. I like to visit the city and then get out!

Ready for the week to get moving. Love my Fitbit flex... Find it very encouraging and the support I have from my mark c. on here is huge. We had a great walk workout this weekend in the snow and I am armed with all his great cooking and encouragement! Here's to walking to work tomorrow!!
  • Good morning all.

Kevin, I didn't leave the house yesterday. Heck, I barely left the couch. I'm with ya though.

Kelly, welcome to the group (since I see you're new). I have a Fitbit as well (One) and use it for walks at work where my phone GPS doesn't work. Gotta get those steps in.

Happy Monday Folks! Hope all is well with all of you. Doing pretty good today, HRV is 87 in the green Yesterdays work out dropped it by 5 points this morning so good stuff. Strong lifts this morning plus some de kinking on my inversion table.

Heron - Bummer on the joints, I don't wish walking in my boots on anyone, The good news is you are modifying things in a smarter way than I ever did. So keep movin, You may feel like there is much you can't do at the moment but as you move along you'll be amazed at how much you can do despite the limitations. loved the Dog pics BTW they are lucky pups to have you.

    Jen - Good Work Lass!

    U B Jammin Kim.

Kelly - Welcome and we have a Fat2FitHQ Fitbit group as well. I like the flex as well.

Kevin - Layer up and hit the trail lad. Motion is the lotion. Though I think (given the fitbit stats I've seen) we all dropped off a bit last week. Must be something in the last week of Feb.

So Headin for the Bench work gonna get er done. Have a great day Folks and keep on movin'!

Seems I forgot to check in on this thread yesterday. Here’s to a new week!

Kim, Congrats on that killer StrongLifts session. I would love to add a squat rack to our home gym. Thinking about it, but I have to make myself be consistent with my lifting. Although they really aren’t THAT expensive. Glad you enjoyed your yummy Carb Nite.

Heron, Those pics of your fosters were darling. Looked like the sparks were flying between them. Too cute. Boxing is a good time. I haven’t done it in ages though. As for the compensation, I feel ya. I am noticing my other knee acting up as it carries the load from the bad one. I need to work on it.

Jen, Happy dance for your loss. You have been doing an amazing job. Bring on the veggies!

Carol, Where is the picture of you in the dress that everyone speaks of. This non-Facebooker is missing out.

Kelly, Welcome! It’s wonderful that you and Mark do these things together. Makes a huge difference. My boyfriend is back to thinking about joining me in lifting. If it wasn’t for him and his love of cooking, I would be eating poorly, if not at all. Now, you and Jen have me thinking about pulling out the Fitbit. I have yet to wear the bugger.

Kevin, I need warm weather too!!! It helps the spirit tremendously. Shucks, I would take being able to open my windows without freezing. Spring WILL arrive eventually:)

John, Go show those weights who is boss! Hammer on my friend:)

It seems to be Monday again. I am bound and determined to make this a good day regardless of what comes at me!!!

    Ugh. Monday.

    I mean....Happy Monday everyone!

Kelly, welcome! Great that you have Mark as a partner day to day, but we'd love your voice in here too! I'm a long time fitbit fan also.

I am sore today. My typical 36 hours post DOMS. Plus I was really pushing the hills on yesterday's walk with hubby. I love how uphill activates hamstrings and glutes and get very deliberate, fast on the steeper areas. Then I pace circles or up side streets while he catches up ( and I catch my breath).

Heron - next time I have a biz trip out your way, I need to extend a day and do dinner with you guys! Hope you like the KB. I love playing with them. And boxing sounds great for you.

Where are the Carol wedding pictures that everyone is raving about?

Kelly has lost a lot of weight these past few months, even more in sizes. Absolutely amazing the transformation, and she should tell you all about it. Really is a great story on good eating and getting moving. Kelly bought the Fitbit a few weeks ago started moving even more; I think she is addicted now. I am still saving up for mine as I want the Surge HR. So if you get time, help her pick up some friends over there on Fitbit for encouragement. Walking to work is a new thing today; she never would have thought of walking the mile to work just a few months ago.

I am proof that if you continue to eat Paleo, but stop moving and eat too much, you can gain weight. Not nearly as fast as if I were eating junk food, but steadily going up. The days are starting to get longer so that will help; now to get the storms to stop making walking so icy. We did 3 miles in the snow on Saturday with the dogs and had a great time.

About 1 month to go for the start of Competition season and I need to get cracking to be ready. Not just exercise and dropping a few pounds, but dry fire and live fire practice. I really want to move up a Class this year...

Hammer, as always you are right. It's a poor excuse for being lazy. I'm going crazy trying to get the boat ready for fishing, studying up on where to go, patterns etc, and have not been doing much else. Hopefully this is all rewarded with copious amounts of fresh fish to eat.

I think there is something to the February "blueness" the wife and I have both been feeling it, and sadly I eat when stressed or depressed. I don't mean depressed as in real depression but just don't know a better term for the way I have felt lately. No reason for it, but that's just the way it felt lately.

Either way, getting excited about what is to come. Got a trolling motor on the boat, and have some serious plans for spring fishing.

Kevin - Get some sun on your skin! Esp back or torso (larger surfaces). Upping vit D will help solve the blues. Last year I began doing 5-8 minutes in a tanning bed 2-3 times a week in mid Feb through April. Made a huge difference (just enough time to get the vit D, never to pink or red at all. And face/neck always covered.) Not sure why I haven't done that yet this year. Guess haven't made time. And as mentioned the blood levels of Vit D show it.

Hammer - Strong Lifts is just one set of DL, so quitting at only three in 5th set is no big deal, you were already 3 sets over the protocol. Mehdi feels deadlifts are too taxing to the central nervous system and specifically restricts. They are my favorite lift too, but I can see what he is saying and have followed. The volume of squats 3 times a week with progressive weights is more than ample CNS stimulation.

Mark that's great about Kelly. Can't wait to hear her story.

I made it on the walk to and from work today! Wouldn't have thought it was possible even a week ago. Lmao and yes Mark I am so addicted to my Fitbit and glad you were there with me when we first saw it and talked about it :). Spending time with Mark has given me an extra opportunity to reevaluate my health and fitness... To really set a goal and change the way I eat and live. To basically get out of my own way. So in 4 months I have lost 30 lbs. dropped at least 15 inches since the first of the year and shrink two sizes in clothes. Dropped the pop and fast food along with the food that makes its way thru my office! Eating Paleo has also been way better for my allergies as well as giving me high protein to keep going.

And looking forward to going shopping with Mark this weekend to get MORE smaller clothes! Glad we can encourage each other and yes I would love friends on Fitbit :).

Mark.... Get practicing! Gotta get you ready for the season

Well, I'm stuck again. I've lost 5 of the 7lbs of the holiday weight and I'm stuck.
Oh and I'm kinda annoyed, I joined a weight loss challenge through meetup and I just found out that the organizer is using most lbs lost and not % which I think is messed up. I just assume she would do the logical and fair way but nope. Learned a lesson.

John, thank you for the encouragement!

Kim, yes let me know the next time you that you are in our vicinity!

Thank you everybody for your comments on my foster! :D He is still crated 23.5 hrs of the day and he is not happy. I bring him outside in the middle of day and just sit with him (I sit while he do circles) so he can get like Kim says vitamin D! There's a lot of interesting studies on vitamin D and mental health.
And yes Kelly do tell us your journey!

Kevin, good job on studying up.

Mark I'm sure losing and being active will help with your competition. So you should focus on thinking that instead of "losing weight" just a suggestion. I feel that sometimes we are trapped in the mindset of "losing weight"

Kelly, thanks for sharing your story! I'm glad you are feeling better and leading a healthier lifestyle! Go Kelly go!

Kelly and Mark, You two made me smile with your posts. What a wonderful pair you make. WOOHOO out to you Kelly on the changes and loss. I am still struggling with the Diet Cike and have mega food allergies. Thanks for the inspiration:)

WTG John. Kicking butt as usual:) Your hands seem strong to me;)

Kevin, I was just thinking about how these winter blues are getting to the boyfriend and I. We rarely argue, but withing the last two weeks have found ourselves a bit short with each other. I blame this weather and being cooped up. The outdoors is healing in many areas of our lives:)

I jumped on to share some news. I am teary eyed just typing it. I RAN TONIGHT! It has been just short of 6 months since I have been able to with the torn ACL. Tried and failed a few times. For some reason I came home after a rotten day at work and said, "I am going downstairs to hit the treadmill." I did and I ran. Slow as a turtle, but I ran. Only 5 mph, feet barely off the ground, short mini-steps, but I did it. Came upstairs to shower before dinner and cried because I was so happy. It is like I reunited with a long lost friend. I miss pushing my body, I miss the stress release, I miss breathing heavy and listening to my body move... The stars aligned tonight and a BIG thank you to the Lord! Also thanking y'all for listening to my crazy shares:)

Kris - Awesome!!! I really miss my mountain bike... in time.

Heron - watching Kelly has taught me one thing, you can lose size (and fat), and the scale does not change. I forget that bit. So while I will complain that yes, I gained 2 pounds in the last month, I actually lost size. Call it wealth redistribution  I had forgot about that till after I made my post this morning. The scale is one tool in a list of measuring tools.

I really want that Charge HR...

Mark, we gotta get you the charge hr :). One of these days of course! And yes the last few months have proved to me that I should not rely on just a scale to measure my progress. That I am also gaining muscles I didn't know I had and that would make the scale not quite be a friend anymore lol.

Kris - awesome on the running tonight!

Mark, thank you! And I love the "wealth distribution" lol
I am still fitting into my "small" clothes so I know I haven't gain weight. I'm just feeling a little Fed up. I'm giving up carbs and I'm not seeing much results. So tonight I cracked and ate some carby snacks. Oh well. This week I have 3 social engagement and to be honest, I don't feel like pulling out my phone to check how many carbs each food has, nor do I feel like asking the waiter a bunch of questions or substitute this and that. Or turning down perfectly good craft beers. Because that is not going to make a difference anyways. I'm not going to binge but I am so effing tired of counting macros and weighing food right now. I'm just going to eat a more "normal" diet this week, still keep track of calories and eating good but not caring about macros.
I'm just feeling down. I no longer have those high intensity workout that gives me a flood of endorphins anymore. Lol idk what the ***** is wrong with me. It's frustration I guess.

Kris congratulations on the running!! I remembered when I was able to run again as well. Take it slooooow. I know you are feeling good now but don't push it. If anything happens at this stage the rehab will be 3x as long!! But good for you and let those happy tears go!!!
  • Good morning everybody. Thankfully it's NOT Monday.

Kelly, that is fantastic!!!! What an awesome accomplishment. I'm working on being able to go 'shopping' for smaller clothes as well (my closet is full of clothes that I outgrew almist immediately after I bought them a couple years ago, so they are basically new). Like you, I dropped the soda and sweets (ok, the occasional one sneaks in there).

Kris, I'm teary eyed reading your post. YAY!!!! You ran!!! Who cares are fast or slow it was. You did it!!!! I'm with you on the lack of being able to be outdoors and causing 'issues' in our lives. Spring is coming!!!

The next three days are going to be a bit iffy. I'm in an offsite training class, so I won't get in my walks (usually get at least 10k steps at work).

Kelly....great story, and more importantly great job! Giving up the pop and fast food are tough but incredibly important steps. Keep eating healthy and getting in the movement. So, do great. Love hearing how you and Mark are inspiring each other.

Mark. Listen to Heron. Focus on your training. Ignore the scale. Eat right. It's all a winning combination. Scale and measurements aren't only indicators, don't forget performance. Seems to me if clothes looser despite scale weight up there's been some fat list and muscle / lean mass gained. Keep it up...and keep up with Kelly!

Kris, that's great on the running! Keep it up....but sensibly, don't push too hard or too often too soon. Baby steps now that you've taken the big one.

Heron, maybe it's time for a little break. Go have some fun, relax, eat, drink. Give your mind a break too. Think of it as a deload week. Then re-assess. Give some thought to stopping the weighing macro counting for a bit. You know which foods to eat, you can eye ball portions. Trying lightening up to lighten up. You know what are the better choices in each moment, but don't agonize over them. It's just not worth it.

    Happy Tuesday Folks!

Kim - Yep know what he says, about dead lifts but felt like it was doable in light of the Zercher Squat Modification, was figuring to drop back to fewer sets around 275, Not of the mind to count my warm up sets as part of the lift though, I do 10 reps of 135, 185, and 5 of 255 before the progression lifts. The good part is the other lifts are on the verge of becoming challenging. So if there's a time to change it would be now. Thanks for the reminder.

Kris - Nothing crazy about doing what you love, but listen well to Heron she speaks great wisdom.

Jen its the Second Monday of the week but who's counting just today plus 2 more til its FRIDAY!

Kelly and Mark you B Rockin' it

Another Great Day sitting out there just waiting on us to pounce. Go For it!

Had to share.....(cross posted in FB Carb Nite group)

I'm wearing a cowl neck sweater today. I sneak downstairs to raid some bacon off a buffet set out for one of our department's meetings. On way back to office, I run into my boss. Who points out I'm wearing a piece of bacon in my collar. I promptly pick it off, and pop it in my mouth.

Kim, thanks for your advice. You are right. I cook a lot and I'm pretty good at eyeballing stuff. I am trying to play "the numbers game" by weighing some stuff to the gram. All not healthy behavior and the more I don't see results the more stress I get with food and the more I resent things. Arggh!! I'm working on some of my issues right now.

So.. The "small baby shower BBQ" that I'm co hosting with a friend is not so small anymore. It went from a 10-12 people to a 35 people confirmed. And my co host is newly pregnant so she is at a tired and I want to throw up phase. I'm not the best in time management so we'll see! Lol
