Setting my Stride

Okay, I know stuff has been posted on this but I am still confused. I have not set my stride so it is set on my FB as 0 and 0. I basically do step based exercise so not sure how this is affecting my daily burn. First, do I need to set my stride to get an accurate burn and if so, how can I do that easily? If anyone could explain this to me without any complicated math formulas or jargon I would really appreciate it! Thanks

As long as my exercise was all Zumba, I didn't particularly worry about my stride length, although I think that when I first got my One I did do a little testing to make sure it was in roughly the right ball park. However, when my husband started joining me for walks last year, I started using Map My Walk and I've tried a little harder to get the stride length right.
You just need to walk a known distance - longer will get you better accuracy - at a normal pace and note the steps counted by your FitBit in that distance (easiest way is to push the button at the beginning and end and look at the record created). Divide distance (in feet) by steps and that is your stride length (in feet). To get feet and inches, rather than decimal feet, subtract off the whole feet (probably 2) and multiply by 12 to get the inches.
To confirm that it is right, take another walk of known distance (I use Map My Walk to get the distance), with your FitBit in exercise mode, and check to see that the distance FitBit reports is reasonably close (don't expect it to be exact). If not, adjust again.0 -

Thanks, this is helpful...I will give it a try!0 -
This will get in to some recommendations on the pace for that stride length test too.
