Total newbie here, so go easy on me :) What do I need to get started? My "local" Craigslist is pretty limited on any sort of fitness equipment, so I'm probably looking for something I can order online.

i always forget that there are sticky threads, but i just checked the faq one and it looks like it might be useful for you: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/887158/faq-read-the-summary-then-me

if you've absolutely never lifted before and/or you're going to be learning how to do the lifts as you go, it might be a good idea to do your first week or two of workouts in a gym, just to see how your body feels about the 45lb bar versus the 30lb one. 45 is a good thing to have for squatting and deadlifts, because you'll need to move up from there . but ohp is another story, and trying to learn good form on a lift when you're using a bar that's too heavy for you isn't really a fun kind of thing.

I got my bar on Roguefitness and it's pretty awesome quality. I'm debating to get a women's bar now from them as my hands are tiny and my OHP seems effected by the standard, fatter bar.

My husband built the squat cage, but roguefitness sells those too.

Craigslist would probably have more fitness stuff in warmer months when people are moving more, depending where you are located of course.

I wouldn't get a bigger bar because a fatter bar helps you improve your grip. They even sell fattening tubes to put on standard bars to make them extra fat for more grip work.

I got this Olympic set from D&&k's Sporting Goods (sorry, they won't let me spell it cause it sounds like man parts) for $200.

I inherited my set from my brother. In the UK we have Argos and ebay has a ton of stuff.

I ordered an Ivanko bar and plates a couple months ago, I love them. I got a squat rack from a sporting goods store..... what I did in the beginning was bought a cheap starter set at sports authority, then after a bit when I knew I loved it I upgraded to better equipment.

Same with me, couldn't find anything locally so I had to purchase everything online. Also consider your upper body strength; luckily, my husband has his OLD equipment (standard bar that only weighs 11.5 lbs) that I use for upper body since the olympic bar is too heavy for me.

Good luck! I'm also a newbie. The ladies here are wonderful.
