Recipes with Food Exchanges

The other day my husband and I were planning our dinner menu for the week and I was flipping through a recipe book and noticed the food exchanges. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, at the end of the recipe, after the usual nutritional information it will list how many servings of protein, starches, etc.) Now, I've noticed food exchanges before, obviously, but this time, because I'm doing 21DF, I stopped to think about it.

How do the recipe food exchanges line up with the food containers? I assumed it would be a 1:1 but I figured I'd reach out to my Beachbody coach just to be sure. She emailed me back and said that yes, the food exchanges and the containers are close enough that this is another way to plan meals.

Aha!

So the next time you're feeling uninspired or want to mix things up a bit, you can go to the American Diabetes Association and look at some of their recipes. I'm sure there are other recipe resources out there that have the food exchanges as well. I only know that ADA has them for sure because my husband is diabetic and it was while looking in a diabetic cookbook that I made this connection between the food exchanges and the containers.

Hope everyone is starting off the week strong!
