President Barack Obama was seen sporting a new smartwatch on Saturday while attending his niece's NCAA game between Princeton and Green Bay.

Obama wore a "Fitbit-style smartwatch" that the Daily Mail identified earlier this week as the Fitbit Surge, according to a White House pool report. The device tells time, measures heart rate, can function as a calorie counter and has GPS capability, according to Daily Mail. It sells for $250.

Oh great, now how many hackers are going to be messing around with Fitbit's site now trying to find his account.

Curious, does it report in GPS location only when you've used the activity button for a workout, or spot locations all the time?

I'll bet HR will be interesting stat for his physicians.

I think they will make him use it on the special servers used for other White House things like his smartphone. Remember the bruhhaha over his Blackberry?

He wouldn't be on the public fitbit server.

So would have to be a stupid hacker to go to the commerical servers. Besides who wants to see all the brags about "I did 100K steps TODAY" anyway? >:)

I have a Surge - the GPSR is only on when you are tracking an outdoor activity. It also drains the battery super fast. I can't go out all day hiking and track it on Fitbit because the GPSR doesn't last that long.

    HRM is 24/7, though.

Then they would have to set up their own Fitbit server system, rewrite the software to point to that system instead of the default one.
    Not impossible, but .....

So that's where the money goes.

I agree... highly unlikely. The risk is that someone tries to remotely enable the GPS function and track him. After that, where is there a concern? They would not need their own server to do that. He could use a Fitbit account that is not obvious as to whom it belongs, and the secret service could monitor the data loaded.
