This is the time of night ..8 to 9 pm...I tend to mindlessly eat..nothing seems filling. I'm trying to stick to my calories that my fitness pal created for me..1330...while still not using my exercise calories. I do KAIA boot camp style workout 3-4 times per week. Do you recommend eating after 8, or holding off? And if so, what snacks are good at night...high protein, high carb, etc?

I make sure that I have a good dinner with lots of fibre so that I'm not hungry. One option is vegetable soup - not many calories but quite filling and takes a while to eat. But I'm still waking in the night sometimes unable to sleep because I'm hungry at which point I have one slice of high-protein bread - seems to let me sleep the rest of the night.0

I started this week with a 8:30 cut off time. Anything after 8:30 is only water. Fills you up.0

I get hungry just before bed all the time. I try to save 170 calories - 1/4 cup of pistachios are 170 calories and they hit the spot nicely for me
(1/4 cup if shelled, 1/2 cup if not shelled)0 -
My feeling is you are not over-eating, you are eating back your exercise calories whether you are planning to or not. Are you still losing weight?

Most 'experts' recommend not eating at 8:00 pm. That, however, is ONLY because that's the time of day when many people tend to eat empty calories or to eat mindlessly. The calories you eat after 8:00 pm are no different from the ones you eat before that time. My thought is that, if you are prone to eating mindlessly late at night, you should try to avoid eating at that time. If you feel hungry (not bored, not thirsty, not upset etc etc), you should PLAN for a suitable snack that will fit in with your overall food plan. Generally, eating at night can be a problem for me. On a good day, if I want something I ask myself: Should I be hungry now? Is this really hunger or is it something else? How many calories can I afford? If the answers are negative, I tell myself to just get over it and go to bed. I have never regretted NOT eating something. On a bad day - well, you know...0

I've started cutting myself off on food and all drinks (including water) after 8 (unless I finish a workout after 8, in which case I do drink to re-hydrate).
But that has nothing to do with losing weight.
Too many complaints from the wife when I get up in the middle of the night!0 -

First of all, thank you all for your input! This is SO helpful!
My weight loss is VERY slow...I stayed under my calories for about 3 weeks prior to this group, and lost only about 2 lbs...lame! Got discouraged, gained it back ...and now I'm starting again. It is difficult because I am so hungry. 3 pm and 8 pm are a hard time of day because I'm starving...especially on the days I workout. So,yes, I've been eating some of my exercise calories back. I have about 15-20 lbs to lose....So maybe pre planning and saving some calories for the evening is the way to go....I tried drinking tea, drinking sparkling water, regular water...nothing hits the spot. I just don't want to get discouraged and start eating mindlessly again. I can't afford to buy a new wardrobe, so I have to fit back into the one I already have!0 -
I now buy the multi packs of individual servings of popcorn. Not only do they have different flavours they are half the calories of crisps but fill my savory and crunch cravings. If I need something more substantial I keep a couple of tins of weight watchers soup in house. ( I don't do weight watchers but a couple of their products make ok low calorie stop gaps if I'm feeling lazy). I don't have a cut off time as I work shifts, but sometimes feel the need to have something before bed which won't put me over.0

Yep my go to snack is Orville Redenbacher's 100 cal smart pop kettle corn. Just enough to satisfy my cravings.0
