I have only 425 steps this morning at 9am and MFP has already given me 137 extra calories?? I have noticed very high numbers lately. My fitbitONE is several years old I wonder if it's not working correctly.

Yes, I would agree there is something wrong. I have done 1,299 steps this morning and have a 0 adjustment.

The Fitbit site is down right now for me, so maybe they're tinkering under the hood?

Edited to add: It's back up now. ;)

Fitbit has 2 options for figuring out your current burn calories if there are no device syncs to update with actual stats. The FAQ touches on these options and what it means to MFP math if no device syncs.
Personalized or Sedentary. The latter would cause the day to start with negative adjustments, the former would be positive.

That's what is sent to MFP to do math with.

I would suggest don't rely on the Fitbit adjustments on MFP to decide if Fitbit is working right, go back to the source numbers on Fitbit.
Compare some days, look at daily 5 min graph of steps and calorie burn and compare what you know are typical days, see if they match up.
