Dealing with real life after surgery - brace yourself for some rambling :-)

I have been M.I.A. from here lately. I went on vacation about 4 weeks ago then hit the ground running when I got back and started a new job. My old job was an easy 20 minute commute. My new job is about an hour each way on a good day. Some days maybe an hour and 20 minutes. So, basically I have two hours a day less to myself, and I was trying to figure out when I would work out. I would have to be at the gym at 4 am if I want to work out in the morning, and if I go after work, I would not even get home till after 8. So I have been doing both, some mornings, some evenings, and basically I have zero time for anything till the weekend. Now, I am supposed to be getting an offer from another place that's 20 minutes away. The job is better, the benefits are not, but I am going to take it if offered for many reasons, but getting back my two hours a day is super important to me and I think it will make a difference for me to be successful in maintaining my weight loss. If I don't get the offer, I will find a way to manage my time to make sure I do what I need to do. The reason I am sharing all of this is because going through all this made me realize that I don't want to sacrifice all of the hard work I have done and all the progress I made. Even though the new job would offer me a bit less in the big picture, I am totally willing to make some sacrifices for the greater good - meaning ME. Those of you who are further along in your journey have probably had to make similar decisions, and those of you at the beginning of your journey, you might have to make some hard decisions along the way, but in the end, remember that you are having surgery to make your life better, so make wise choices and put yourself and your health first. You are worth it!!

I hope you get that new job! Getting back time is precious --- as that "cost" is so easily forgotten but is most valuable of all.0

Sending prayers you get the new job offer! I admire your determination to take care if you! You deserve it.0

Great perspective on what is really important in life. I hope you get the opportunity you are looking for. A long time ago I flirted with jumping to the consultant life. Probably more money, travel etc. instead, I stuck with the corporate life and had much more home time and family time. Glad I chose that path.0

It's great that you haven't made compromises to your quality of life, that is so respectable! I mean, most of us had surgery to improve our quality of life, and we need to embrace that in all areas. You continue to be a great example, Rob!0 -
I really hope you get the job closer to home!
I take it the current work place doesn't have a fitness room or anything? My husband has a mini-gym and showers at work. I'm always telling him he should go work out for 30 minutes and shower there, but he says the second he walks through the door the work is magnetically drawn to him and he'd never escape, lol.

Praying you get the job closer to home. And kudos to you for taking the stance you are! You're so right, we don't go through all this just to let life or work be the reason we regain.0

"Sigh" - I'm in a similar boat. I work 55+ hours right now at my current position and it feels like I can barely get any work out done. (I know this is an excuse.) I've applied for another position that I hope I can get that will be only 40 to 45 hours and free up some more time. I need to get the rest of this weight off.0
