What kind of bike? Bigger isn't necessarily going to be more comfy.

saddles if u want to be anal....

    Interesting choice of words

Depends on the bike, your size and what you are going to use the bike for.

I recently upgraded the saddle on my hybrid to a "Specialized BG Sonoma Sport Saddle" and liked it so much I bought another for my road bike. The V groove made a huge difference and now I don't get any numbness in the meat & two veg department. (Sorry if TMI...)

Comfort is very personal - my previous purchase was rated the most comfortable in a cycling magazine review but I found it really painful on a two hour ride.

Do any of your local shops provide a measuring/fitting service or test saddles?

One of the guys I used to cycle with swore by Brooks. It's leather and moulds to your bum. We used to take his bike for a ride when he wasn't looking and it would mould to ours and he'd have a fit.

As someone has already said; bigger doesn't necessarily mean 'comfier'!

Go to a Local Bike Shop (LBS) and get them to 'measure your sit-bones' and suggest a saddle for you from the measurements. If they are a reputable LBS (which most are, as crap shops tend to go out of business very quickly), they'll show you a selection of saddles to suit your budget. Then all you have to do is buy one.

Most shops will also give you an exchange service if you get the saddle fitted & you feel it doesn't 'suit you'. From memory, my LBS gave me 2 months to 'test' the saddle - any issues they would have let me swap it (as long as it wasn't damaged etc.)

    Good luck
