Here in NJ we have had people struck by cars and trains while walking absorbed in whatever they were doing with their cell phones. How they could not hear a Train coming is beyond me. I can hear the traffic when I am walking through the headphones over the Radio Show. When I see someone waiting for a Bus they often (usually) are sitting or standing and staring down at the small screen on the phone. I see Students walking home from school bent over their phones too
I guess they have no life.
Much of the Metro Area covered by Comcast, Cablevision and another mainly NY cable company, Free to subscribers are tons of WiFi coverage. I can see a Signal from one of them on the computer with wireless. When I was working they put a Wifi Hotspot out on cable wires in front of where I was. Those Three cable companies share the Wifi in each cable companies areas. Makes sense to me too, since They do not compete for subscribers as their areas do not overlap.

I know....I don't understand some people around here who either bike or run/walk on narrow, winding back roads where there is no shoulder. That's bad enough, but some of them are wearing headphones! If 2 cars were coming around a bend at the same time in opposite directions, unless they managed to jump off the road, they would be a goner, or the cars would crash trying to avoid them. There are enough parks and developments where there is not much through traffic, where they could get their execise much more safely.1

Guilty here too, If I only stayed on roads with sidewalks I could not get down the street I live on
of the blocks only the furthest away from me block has a sidewalk and that has a yard with no sidewalk too. I do walk against traffic and only only on lightly traveled side streets however. Also I do hear the cars a ways off despite listening to Old Time Radio shows while walking. I also keep a Escape path in mind, OTOH the roads with no sidewalks are lightly traveled.
