Hashimotos changing to Graves?

Hello everyone! I am guilty of not actively posting to this group although I think its a great help! I was diagnosed with Hashimotos a couple of years ago and since have been on a roller coaster of diagnosis and constatly changing meds.

I was originally disagnosed with Hashimotos and borderline Hypo and put on Tirosint and a T3/T4 compounded medication.

I'm not sure if that was the trigger or it was something else, but on those meds I quickly (within 6 months although thinking back I started feeling the symptoms within 2 months ) went into the hyper category. Once I had the terrible terrible side effects of being hyper (heart racing, tremors, panic attacks and GAINING weight - yes there are a lucky few who gain weight with hyper too).

An iodine tyroid scan, TSI Index etc later I was diagnosed as now having Graves disease. I was now put on ANTI-thyroid meds (methimazole) and changed Endos to someone my neighbor (who had graves) recommended.

More weight gain (30 pounds in this case), falling hair and general muscle pain later it looks like I am now back in the hypo category (borderline). Every time I see the Endo and complain about gaining weight,he tells me I must not be eating right or not exercising enough. God he is such a self-important ****.

I am at my wits end on what to do. I have been doing weight watchers through this all and trying to keep it together. Have decided to come back to MFP because it gives the same benefits of tracking etc without the added cost of paying WW.

Anyone go through a combined Hashimotos and Graves diagnosis?

Nope, but I was hyperthyroid for years before my Hashimoto's was finally diagnosed, and since then I've been hyper whenever my meds are too high. (I take Synthroid + Cytomel.) I had no idea Hashi's could change into Graves. Isn't it far more likely one of the two diagnoses is wrong—you've only ever had one or the other?

My endocrinologist is a jerk, too. (He mansplains to me.) But yours is right about learning to log everything you eat & drink accurately & honestly. I lost the weight before my levels ever entered the "normal" range thanks to MFP. I honestly thought I was gaining weight for no good reason. Just as I thought I lost for no reason when I was hyper. But logging taught me I was eating too much.

I lost way more slowly than most MFPers, so be patient! But logging changed my life. Logging works.
