Hi all,
I've been reading this message board for the last week or so, starting from the most recent, then flipping to the end and working forward, so I think I've read most of it. Wow, it's been an inspiring read! I've been working my way up to actually starting SL, and I think this message board has really given me the knowledge and courage to get started.
I started going to the gym closest to my work 2 weeks ago, and had a go at the program the gym dude made up for me. It was ok, but not what I want to do. I was in the leg press trying to figure out when I would ever be in the predicament that required me to push like all hell on a heavy weight above head height... So The next time i went, I did my version of the 5x 5 (as I understood it) and enjoyed it. I have since figured out the SL program better, and realised how inventive I was!
I found my fail point on the bench press - at 10 kg (so 30kg as it was an Olympic bar), and the heaviest squat I did was at 15 kg (35kg) and the rows were hard to figure out. I wandered around the gym trying to work out how to prop up the bar, put it on a bicep curl machine thingo but couldn't get my feet in the right position... I am just lucky I didn't stuff up my back or knock anybody out with the bar swinging all over the place! I failed at 20kg (40 kg) but my form was terrible and I really don't think I did them right. Anyway, from Tuesday, I'm going to try doing the program correctly rather than jumping up to my fail point from the get-go. I'll be doing 2 SL sessions a week plus a crossfit PT session because I love it and can't miss pushing myself with the crazy weird stuff she gets me to do.
I'm so excited to start the SL program and get strong like you women. Wish me luck

Welcome! You just count the total weight including the bar, so you don't get confused :-) watch plenty of videos too!0

Thanks! I mostly get confused with the lbs vs kgs talk. I get my calculator out to help when I read the boards! :laugh:0

Welcome. Nice to have you here. Fairly new myself, only a couple of months into it. And 30 kg on the bench is more than I can do after two and a half months. Be proud!! I bought a broomstick to work on form, but still feel like I have a long way to go. Yes, do your research, watch videos, do some reading and practice, practise, practise. You will get there! You´re already on your way.0

Welcome!! The kg to lbs gets me as well and I usually find myself typing in x kg to lbs into google. This is a great program to build strength and you will probably find that you can work past your current max points soon. Start at the lower weights to make sure you get the form down for each lift. And videos are always your friend.0

Hello!
I'm just new as well - just started my 3rd week - i'm a kg girl as well!
Good luck - and starting with 30kg is awesome!!!0 -
1kg is 2.2lbs, I try to convert to show both when putting up my new numbers :-)0

I feel your pain with the lbs vs kg thing. And to make it worse, I pieced my weights together from a few craigslist purchases, so some of my plates are marked in lbs and some in kgs. I was confusing the crap out of myself (25 lbs plates + 5 kg plates + 2.5 kg plates = what?) so I finally had to create myself a little cheat sheet and just round things off a bit.
Anyway, welcome!0
