Doing a VSG reboot

I was in a long stall and then started gaining weight again. So I decided to do a reboot. Since then, and this is my third full day, my weight has started going in the right direction again and my sense of purpose has come back.
I have started really focusing on what I am eating and slowing down again at the plate. I have not allowed myself to get into carbs again and am down from 212 on Wednesday to 207 this morning.
I have been blogging about it here:

I think not giving myself permission to fall into bad habits is a good thing. It's so easy to rationalize eating poor foods by saying, "I can't find anything to eat that is beneficial to me, so I might as well have this ______" It's just a big lie. I have been lying to myself.0

I was listening to a podcast re: the WLS journey and one of the things I really liked was this---- regain and loss and such are NOT failures. They are a part of the WLS package. It is a constant balance of figuring out what works, what doesn't, what keeps us on track, what derails us--- and those things are constantly changing. It is always a process-- it is not like we just "arrive" one day because it is all figured out. Be gentle with yourself on the journey. It's all good.0

Thaeda is right! If you ask me, it gets more challenging the further out you get from surgery, and there is so much more trial and error involved. Most of us never really learned to maintain a certain weight, and we have a history of getting off track and staying there. Rebooting is part of the process. The great thing is, you are aware, and as long as you are, you are still on the right path for your journey!0

I was in a horrible stall for over six months. I finally did a few days of shakes only and that seemed to break it. my weight losss is again headed in the right direction, albeit at a snail's pace. I'm thinking about doing all shakes again for a few days to make it head down more.0

You might want to try IF (intermittent fasting). I do not have much weight left to lose, and using IF seems to have kept my momentum. I am losing much more slowly (a half pound per week), but it is still going in the right direction. There is a lot of info on the 'Net about IF. Feel free to check it out.0 -
I did some research on it before, then again when I saw your thread on the topic. I still have over 100 pounds to lose, so it's not like I'm anywhere near goal. I had this surgery because my metabolism was pretty much non-existent. having a small stomach keeps me from eating too much, so it helps a lot. I think I'll try a reboot, then the IF and see if I can pick up the pace again. Thanks for the idea!0

Thaeda, do you think a longer fast period is more effective than a short fast period? Like concentrate the eating in a smaller time period?

I have no idea. I do 14/10 because it is easy. I am lazy like that. I have a friend of mine on another board who has lost 80 pounds and has another 40-50 to go. He does a 24 hour water-only fast once per week. He finds it has been helpful to do so---but what works for one person may not work for someone else. I am using IF as a way to control calories somewhat without having to do much work. It is really easy for me to go til noon each day without eating.0 -
You can also do multiple windows... i.e. only eat between 8-11am and 5-8pm or something if you cant go the full 14 hours. Basically its looking at what you personally find easy (i.e. work gets nuts in the afternoon, so easy to not eat anyway, may as well make that your fasting window). The whole idea is just to get your calories where you want them at the end of the day or week, so think about when you have the most self control, and when you have the least and tailor your eating to that.
For example - if I am holding to 1800 calories, I have the most self control in the mornings, so I put off eating until 10am. I have the least self control in the evenings up through bedtime, so I want to be sure I leave the bulk of my calories for that. So I allow myself something like 600 calories between 10am and 4pm, however I want to eat them or spread them out. Then I have 1000-1200 left between 6pm and 10pm. I eat ALL THE WAY UP TO 10pm, because I know I will want to anyway.
For awhile, I couldnt really control my eating once I started for the day, but if I never started eating it was easy, so I did it a little differently... I had 2 days a week that I put off eating until 5pm and just ate my usual 1000 between 5 and 10pm. The other days I ate 2000 calories however I wanted. Still came in under 1800 average for the week so no problem.
Figure out what is the schedule you can stick to and work with it! The actual advantages to longer windows are minimal especially for weight loss, and if you cant stick to them they are worthless anyway.0
