June 20-29 MINI CHALLENGE. Our challenge group for the morbidly obese, MOBO MOTO, is starting a June mini challenge tomorrow.

June 21, 2015 8:59AM edited 9:01AM
I don't know if you can "search" for a specific group yet, so I can send invites to anyone who wants to join. I think they'll show up in your message folder, then you just click and accept the invitation to join the group. From then on, it'll show up under your "my groups" list.

We started this challenge yesterday. I kept two of my goals--exercise every day and log all cood in my diary. My third goal I changed to "do something toward eating clean," which yesterday was to have free-range organic chicken for dinner. Today will be to look up some clean recipes for our local strawberries.

Even if you start a few days in, please don't hesitate to join. We aim for progress, not perfection!

Good morning all! MFP is sooooo quiet on the weekends! Which is too bad, because weekends are usually when I backside!

I'm still in bed, typing on my phone. Shasta, our adorable cat (who is 17 but still acts like a kitten!), keeps poking at me and making little meows, hoping I'll get up and feed her soon. Usually Jim is up at dawn, but last night I gave him a vicodin and a flexeril (I've been eating them like candy for pinched sciatic nerves) for his back pain and he is still OUT. Good thing--I have birthday presents to wrap for him.

Carly, you've been in this group for a long time, so I'll ask... where is everyone? What ever happened to Julie?

Lise, we haven't "formally" met. I'm Karen, live in Maine, started MFP last year at 494 pounds and literally falling apart after a ten-year battle with Adult Onset Still's Disease, lots of meds (including steroids) that cause weight gain, lots of mobility issues, and a food addiction triggered by depression and pain. What a mess! MFP helped me through the worst of working with my eating disorder shrink and qualifying for bariatric surgery, a sleeve gastrectomy, in December. I have always been active and athletic, even swimming laps every day at 494, so I started a challenge group for the morbidly obese, called MOBO MOTO, separate from this group, for members who want to push themselves to new limits. You and anyone else are welcome to join. Just message me, and I'll send an invite.

Okay--time to start my day! Make it a good one!

I'm still challenge free, though I'm going no-scale for a while at my friend's suggestion, as in her estimation, it was making me mental... LOL

That being said, since Julie had her surgery, she hasn't been on much. She's been recovering, popping in once a month or so. Some of our members got kicked out somehow (still haven't figured out how), and since the group has been locked with mostly inactive mods, some of the folks have not gotten back in. Most everyone has gotten busy, and there are maybe about 5-6 of us who post with any regularity.

I'm not sure why some of the former active members have bailed on us - as there was a good half dozen to dozen more active folks until 3-6 months ago. I guess maybe the directions conversation starters went or something wasn't their cup of tea. I haven't heard any complaints, and I haven't heard from any mods that there were issues reported, so I have really zero idea.

Those of us still interested just keep things going as we've time and interest...

I can ask Pat to make the group open for a while if you like. Or have him make you a moderator.

I tried searching for the challenge group but the "browse" groups is a nightmare lol. I would love an invite if still possible.

I am usually pretty active in mini-challenge groups, I really enjoy them.

Whatever they want to do... I just feel that maybe the "tone" of the group has changed because so many "regulars" feel off the face of the earth, and those of us left are trying to keep it active for each other...??

    Yeah, I don't know...
It's hard to keep a group going without a leader to start a thread every day, ask a question of the day, that sort of thing. I'm putting my efforts into MOBO MOTO right now, but I'll try to pop in here too. I'm sure there are plenty of members who need a group for the morbidly obese who don't want to do challenges.

I'll ask Pat to open the group and make both of us moderators. That way we can both issue invitations to join. Lise, you too? Cari?

That's just the thing... Usually one of us does start something, but I got tired of doing it for weeks on end with hardly any discussion. So we took off with the "I'm thankful for" stuff, then went to "ramblings" and such, but it's so hard when it is the same 4-5 people every discussion. I feel like I'm monopolizing things and I can't stand that feeling...

I'm in Karen. Would be great. I actually had a group for women only who were 100lbs or more over weight, but when Julie started this, most came over here anyway, so I closed/ended that group.

Carly, don't feel bad about "monopolizing" things. I feel that way about starting the threads, but someone has to do it.

Yeah, that's actually why I quit doing it. I felt for a long while like I was the only one talking...and it got exhausting.

I hear you! I sent RatPat a note about making us group leaders and opening the group. I can poke my head into the forums and invite new members. We don't have to have a "formal" plan, but maybe each of us could start a discussion topic every couple of days.

And Cari and Carly, please don't apogize for "monopolizing"! I love reading your ramblings and always take away something good.

I agree I feel like Im rambling on and on and often the threads end with one of my inputs and I wonder if my inanity drives people off when theres only a few of us talking. But I love this group and wouldnt want to see it stop functioning I only use this and one for people with over 100lb to lose
