I was also trying to find a group with recent discussions, preferably about Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Your post was the most recent! I have been on Synthroid for quite a few years for Hypothyroidism. I just switched doctor's to get more in-depth information on why I had lost 40 pounds on a specific diet, kept it off a couple of years and then over the past 3 years gained it all back! No dieting or exercise has helped recently. Yesterday I finally got results of all the new Dr's testing and was told I have Hashimoto's Thyroidits. Today I started on Nature-Throid because my T4 was not converting to T3 (I hope I got that explanation right!) and the T3 level was too low. I have a list of foods to eat and not to eat. The doctor seems very concerned about the glycemic index of foods but the internet seems more concerned about gluten.

    Hey there!
I have full blown HT. I was just wondering if there was a group for me and I found it. I will help this group grow. There has to be a lot of HT's on MFP needing helpful support.
I wish I knew about all your questions but no doctor has ever told me what to eat or how. But eat less and take your medicine.
I have always done the opposite.
Not any more. Getting to fat. No wait I am to fat. So I am losing it now. Down 37 52 more to go. And I am going to get back on my meds tomorrow.
I would love to help with this group any way you like.

I have had Hashimotos for 30 years. All I know is to never take synthroid/levoxothyrine with any food. Wait at least an hour to eat after taking it. Shy away from dairy close to when you took your thyroid pill as it inhibits absorption. Of course stay away from refined sugars and white flour products. Diets that have worked for me are South Beach Diet, Paleo, and Thyroid Diet, and of course 3 days a week exercise. (I did the "couch to 5K" running app, I liked it!) even dieting and running, the weight was still twice as slow to come off as anyone else. I was in weight watchers for a while and followed the formula to the T! I lost the slowest of anyone there. The only thing that works for me is journaling your food, consciously eating healthy and 3 days of exercise. I'll work hard for 6-8 months, lose 10 lbs and then my weight tends to creep back gradually....its way exhausting to keep this up being a working mom! And of course a weird hormonal mood swing once or twice a year can have you put on 12 lbs in 1 week! (I thought I was preggers again only to find out I had a hormonal shift brought on by stress) Good luck to all dealing with the weight gain, exhaustion, and depression that comes with being hypo. Its a continued battle everyday.

Yeah, I am so bad at taking my meds everyday and on an empty stomach. Probably because I am always trying to eat. Such a fattie.
I am dealing with pain since I had back surgery and now my knee is killing me. I just wish I could run and maybe I would lose all this weight. But I cant. Bad back you know...
I just need to get back to my dit starting today.
    Thanks for posting @talsornin
