Virtual walk - The Way of St James - "Camino de Santiago"

I am contemplating a virtual walk of the Camino de Santiago, the Way of St. James. The Way of St. James or St. James' Way is the pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the apostle Saint James are buried. I became aware of this pilgrimage when I watched the movie "The Way" starring Emilio Estevez and Martin Sheen. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441912/
Although there are several routes, the most popular route is the The French Way. It runs from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the French side of the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles on the Spanish side and then another 780km on to Santiago de Compostela through the major cities of Pamplona, Logroño, Burgos and Léon. A typical walk on the Camino Francés takes at least four weeks, allowing for one or two rest days on the way.
If anyone is interested in taking this virtual walk with me, please let me know. If there is enough interest, I would create a group for our adventure. I plan on starting my walk on July 1.

i was kicking around doing something similar when I got my new bike. the idea of taking trips like this is intriguing. tell me, do you have an app for this (or anything similar)? how does it work.. do you set daily goals where you have to reach certain scenic points before nightfall?0

I would be very interested ...
The movie was so inspiring it was the first time I had heard of it ...0 -
I don't quite know how I'm going to do this yet, thus the start date of July 1.
I don't have any app, just a map of the route on GoggleMaps. I kinda just thought I would plot my progress (5-10k per day) on the map and see how long it will take me to make the entire journey.

If y'all are interested, maybe we could kick some ideas around about how to do this, maybe research some online walking apps, etc. I think it would be really cool to do this, kinda visit each stop as we "get there".
Let me know what y'all think.0 -

Please bear with me as I figure this out. Any suggestions or ideas are most graciously accepted.
Ok, so far I have downloaded GoogleMaps and GoogleEarth onto my iPod (or use your home computer). I then "got directions" for the first stage of the route - St-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France to Roncesvalles, Spain (27.5km). I will "walk" this route and when I arrive in Roncesvalles, I will plot the next stage. This is definitely a work in progress.
