Evening Tennis - Planning the Day's Calories

Often times when playing, its during the evening. I have two single matches scheduled this week, first is tonight (Thurs) at 7 p.m. and the second is Friday night also at 7 p.m.

In the past, the assumption that at least 500 calories would be burned. Knowing that twice or three times that amount, depending on number of sets played, etc, could be burned. Therefore, I would plan accordingly and eat an extra 500 calories during breakfast and lunch combined.
However, after a few matches that were cancelled due to weather or last minute scheduling conflicts, I would barely keep under or right at my daily goal.

Lately, each tennis day is treated like any other day. After playing, that's when I bank in my activity calories and then feel "safe" to consume additional food calories. The only downside is that I would eat at 9:30 or 10:00 p.m. at night.

I'm curious who also struggles with planning their calories ahead of time?
Do you sometimes eat calories your "extra calories" think you will burn later in the day? Or do you prefer to bank those activity calories first then make-up late in the day or zig-zag the next day?

My main focus when I have an evening match is making sure I have enough fuel to get through the match. I don’t want to eat dinner close to match time because that makes me sluggish or when it is hot and humid, it makes me nauseous. So I stick with my regular breakfast and make sure I get a good amount of protein for lunch. Most of the time, lunch is my main meal of the day.
Then about an hour before the match I eat about 300 calories of either protein bar or nuts and fruit. In my tennis bag, I have protein bars and nuts to eat mid-match in case I feel like I need a boost to get through the match. Immediately after the match, (or before a 3rd set tiebreak) I drink either chocolate coconut milk (90cal box) or chocolate almond milk (140cal box). Depending on what time it is that I get home, I then have another 300 calorie mini-meal. (I was getting frozen yogurt on my way home but the store closed.) Or if the Orioles are on, I might make a pan of popcorn (not microwaved!) If its late and I go to sleep before I eat after a match, I wake up hungry and eat an extra large breakfast.
Looking forward to being inspired by Wimbledon, Janet

    Yay Wimbledon!

If I know Im for sure playing in the evening, which I usually do, I usually eat a teeny bit more, because I know i`ll burn it off. If I have loads of calories left after tennis, i`ll have a snack, but if I`m super hungry, I will have a bowl of cereal, or toast or something small.

    Tournament weekends...calories don't count lol
