How long would people here wait after a broken thumb had healed to start lifting? I was supposed to start SL in about a week, but I'll be halfway into a 4 week bracing/casting of my left thumb at that time. Should I wait an additional 2 weeks after that? 4? 6? I don't want to reinjure it, but my doc isn't much help because she (despite years of being told otherwise) thinks I lift no more than 25 pounds at a time. And refuses to believe I would weight-train.

No idea
Sorry about your thumb. Can you get a referral to a physio? Mine helped me a lot when I severely sprained my ankle, and actually listened when I explained that I played a full contact sport on roller skates like an insane person!

I don't have much advice, except to second mirrim's suggestion of a physio. I've gotten a referral on two different occasions, both for minor overuse injuries, and it helped immensely. I'm sorry about your thumb and hope it heals quickly!0

You'll feel it and know, hands are so sensitive.
I broke my ring finger a couple years ago. I got doctor clearance after another xray at 6 weeks, but it felt bad for another 2-3 weeks. I kept my finger buddy taped when I did any fitness activity for probably another 2 months as it didn't feel right.
I found my finger hurt with tension over weight. Long term, it set me back a lot on grip, I'm finally getting better grip after being fully healed and working at it.0
