You selected one action in particular to focus on this month that should result in you sitting less (See: http://www.quittingthesitting.com/simple-plan-to-sit-less) How is this priority action going? Is it becoming easier to do and maybe even a habit? Stick with it and give it some attention. New habits need regular practice!

Retry one of the previous alternatives or try out an alternative already posted. You never know what will be your 1 thing or your 2nd thing!

If you've been wondering why Anna and I have been nudging you to prioritize just one way to reduce your sitting this month and focus on that, it's because we truly want you to be sitting less long after October is over. Sitting is a habit and the folks who study habits tell us that the best way to change a bad habit is to replace it with a new and better habit and then practice that new routine until it truly becomes a habit that you do without thinking. Thus the Pick, Practice, Persist theme of the link Auna provided above.

I used to sit when I got a phone call. Now when the phone rings, I immediately stand up and start walking around. I don't even think about it anymore. Iit's an unconscious habit. That's the power of habits!

If you are intrigued by the thought of changing a few habits that you have (sitting or otherwise) Stanford psychologist and habits researcher BJ Fogg offers a free one week online program to create small tiny habits. His program has helped over 30,000 people form new, better habits. Check it out:
