Just found out that I am going to need surgery, and afterwards it will be AT LEAST 8 weeks before I can resume any physical activity. I'm so scared that I will lose all the momentum I've gained....... the reason for the surgery isn't life threatening, but it will definitely improve some issues I've been having and make my quality of life better.....so I think it will be good in the long run. I just don't want to fall back into old habits and ruin the success I've had.

Just like you didn't make all your progress in 8 weeks, you aren't going to lose it in 8 weeks either. It sounds like putting it off isn't the best idea- might as well knock it out now so you can move on with your improved quality of life! What about gentle physical activity (light walking, swimming maybe?) It definitely sounds like the right move to do it now. Otherwise, just keep your calories/protein/water in check and get back to it when you get the all clear.
