Anyone thinking about Thanksgiving yet?

Just curious, how do you guys plan to not overeat/overindulge? We will be going over to my in-laws', and I'm a little worried! Even though I don't eat turkey, I seem to always find sides and desserts to pile on my plate.

Some tips that I've seen online that I'm going to try to follow:
- Eat small meals throughout the day... don't save your calories for one big meal. Still eat a healthy breakfast
- Exercise to give yourself extra calories (lots of places do Turkey Trot 5ks)
- Get everything you want, but do small spoonfuls to just get a taste of the not-so-healthy items. Try to fill at least half your plate with veggies/protein to leave less room to pile on the sides and desserts
- Create extra deficit during the week prior so going a couple hundred calories over on Thanksgiving doesn't impact your weekly deficit
Best of luck!0 -

This is my goal, I'm hoping I can get some exercise in as well but it looks like I might be going out of town so it might be a little difficult. I'll work it out though and you can too!0 -
Those are all fabulous tips, thank you! I like the idea of going in with a week-long deficit. I'm also seriously considering a turkey trot but I know I can't run that far yet.0

Decide about those calories, is wine worth it or would you rather that slice of pie? Drink lots of water and enjoy everything you want. if you deny yourself you will binge, but having a small amount of everything will be fine. Take a walk after a meal with the family, but remember memories are made and you don't want to be thinking constantly about what you can't have. Enjoy..you will be fine!0

A lot of them allow enough time for people to walk. My Mom has MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and walks the 5k - she's slow and she usually finishes with plenty of time before the "cut off."
I'm a little worried about Thanksgiving too. I'm traveling the day before and it'll take me 14+ hrs to get to where I'm going. With motion sickness with flights I tend to eat a lot and very carb heavy (not that I think carbs are bad, they just tend to be calorie laden) to keep my stomach settled. I'll try to eat less the week before, but I might blow that deficit during the long flights0 -
Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks for the tip on the Turkey Trot, too, @ACSL3.
I hear you on eating on the long flights! I get motion sickness on long road trips, and eating sometimes helps me, too. Do you ever drink carbonated beverages? I found those to be more tummy settling than food on my last long road trip this summer (I just did diet to cut out the calories that come with soda, but you could do sparkling water, too). Good luck--we can both do it!0 -

Yeah I do drink the carbonated beverages too. I usually try to balance drinking enough to help with my stomach but not so much I'm getting up to pee too much I think I can do better. I usually use traveling as an excuse to eat more - "I have to for my stomach/motion sickness." I'm not going to allow myself to do that this time. Just what I need to keep my stomach settled.0 -
I'm thinking about running that day. I do lift on Thursdays as well. I'm making dinner this year. My brother is a vegan and I'm a vegetarian so we will be eating pretty healthy. I'm making stuffed acorn squash. I'm making a vegan dessert. I'm going to try and stick to a slice. I will probably have one glass of wine. Hopefully it will work out.0
