What are these shelves on the squat rack?

Last night, during a rest, I took this photo of these wee shelves on the opposite squat rack.
I always just fold them down, if I'm using that one - but what are they for?
And yes, those are my legs in the background

They're for spotters. If you pull a bench in there, position it so your head is towards those steps, then the spotter can stand on those and help you if you struggle. They're more for incline bench since that puts you at an angle that is hard to help spot from the ground if you struggle with it.0
