December 1-15 Finish Strong!!

Happy December! We're heading into the homestretch  Time for our goals!

I'm feeling very motivated... want to finish out the year in a good place, and not needing New Year's resolutions. I decided to redo the program that got me started and on track back at the beginning of the year. It's also more strength training so until I get the foot issue figured out, I'm planning to just lift and cycle so I'm not making things worse. Plan to see me on here logging and tracking (and if you catch me slacking, you guys know where to find me!)

My goals - 21 green days (gotta allow for some Christmas stuff!), and workout wise, I'm going to stick to my plan.

    Streak: 7 day
    Exercise today? 1/20

Thanksgiving celebration was nice! Still hacking but managed a dentist appointment and 30 minutes on the treadmill. First 5 and last 3 minutes uncomfortably fast. Rest normal pace.

@bbinoa, way to motivate! Love your energy!

Streak: 3 days. I am aiming for two ten day streaks and then a five day streak after Birthday Week is over at my house on Christmas. I have three kids with birthdays between the 20th and 24th. My June baby was a statistical outlier.

So, I sent my hubby to the store to get a couple things, and came home to oreos, ice cream, two tasty cakes, and a 2 liter of coke. :open_mouth:
Those were NOT on the list! I'm sipping my fat free hot cocoa instead. Still sticking to my plan.

Woowoo (there's my cheerleader, we can do it!) Attempt to motivate!

@jenthibert Feel better soon!! Nyquil doesn't work for me. I haven't taken it in quite some time because the last time I did, the room was spinning. I believe I was drunk. Ha, ha, ha, ha. I don't drink, and my body knew that it had something foreign in it. I stick to a natural product called Buried Treasures ACF. It taste really disgusting, but it works like a charm.

@bbinoa I commend you!!! With all those treats, I probably wouldn't have been able to resist. Actually, once I saw ice cream on the list, I was a goner. Ha, ha, ha, ha. I feel motivated with all your cheering. We can do it!!

@MelissaPhippsFeagins. ... team green! I love it!! I'm doing some old high school cheers and jumps right now (not good, been a looong time!!) Yea us!
@Laughter_Girl I'm an ice cream addict. I can't stop at a little so I know to either avoid it all together or suffer the consequences! If I get the little bars I'm ok, but a half gallon in the house is disasteous!
@jenthibert feel better soon! Nyquil makes me hyper so I'd actually be doing the full cheer routines right now.

No exercise except for Merry Core-mas exercises. Busy with swim meet stuff tonight. I've run the computers for my son's Y team and HS team for the last few years and he's graduating so I'm handing over the reins. Tonight was two separate training sessions for each team. No mama time.

Nyquil gives me night sweats and weird dreams but it always helps with the cough and I'm desperate. My abs can't take much more. Between this cold and the Merry Core-mas exercises I should have a 6 pack by now, lol.

Ice cream keeps calling, but I'm still avoiding it!!
@jenthibert have you ever heard of the Vicks vaporub on your feet thing? I've heard a few people swear by it for a cough. Totally odd,but you're supposed to coat your feet in Vicks and then socks and sleep like that. I guess at the least you'd have soft menthol scented feet to go w the six pack abs! Feel better though... Hope you're on the mend soon!

Too much mom stuff to go to the gym today. :(

@jenthibert the Vicks on the feet works. Also, cut an onion in half, scoop out an inch or so of the middle, fill that with honey, leave in the fridge over night and eat the honey in the morning.

You would not believe the food that showed up in my office today! First a very well meaning coworker brought in 4 different kinds of cookies and brownies. Then, one of those "tower of treats" Harry & David gifts showed up. We're talking 8 layers of truffles, chocolate covered cherries, baklava, cakes, etc. I had......an apple! That's it! It was actually a really good apple! Tomorrow is my work holiday party (it's held in one of the Hershey hotels, so yea, expect chocolate) so I'm already planning a red day.

    How's everyone else doing?

30 minutes on the treadmill that felt great! Yeah baby! So ready for the weekend.

@bbinoa Definitely trying the vicks thing, coughing at night a lot still. I'll pick some up tomorrow. @MelissaPhippsFeagins The onion and honey thing I'd have tried yesterday or the day before, I was that desperate. Really works?

Christmas celebrations haven't started yet. I'm not ready for them yet!

@jenthibert - my great-grandmother was a Cherokee medicine woman. It works. You can also try - but this won't taste great - green tea or hot lemonade with clove, sage, and thyme mixed in. Maybe 1/4 tsp. of each. Thyme relaxes your diaphragm and helps with the coughing. Cloves are anti microbial. Sage is antiseptic and antibiotic. I have some annoying sinus drainage this morning and I am going to dose myself with this tea now.

    And while I am here:

Exercise - no 1/15. I had not exactly a migraine yesterday afternoon. I should have gone to the gym, but went to bed instead.

3 miles on the treadmill. Hubby fixed my display! Apparently it runs on batteries and apparently I'm slower inside than out.

@MelissaPhippsFeagins, how special is it that you took an interest in learning more about what your great grandmother knew and loved? My dad grew up around Passamaquoddy Native Americans. He has wonderful stories. I have a lot of respect for their ways. My mother's mother (my parents grew up in the same area) learned a lot about herbs from them. I wish I'd taken as much interest in that knowledge as you have. It's an art. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! But honestly? I think I'd do the tea before the honey, lol. My Nana used to force a lot of that stuff on us - it's probably a familiar flavor! But seriously, would the honey be ok in tea?

Yes @jenthibert honey would be okay, but use more of the spices. Some of them will coat your throat with the honey, some of them will be absorbed through your stomach.

Last night was.my holiday party for work. "Luckily" I felt terrible and didn't eat much. :( I did have a piece of amazing cake so we'll just say red for the day. My only exercise was walking to and from my salon that morning for a hair appt (exciting strolling home w big ol' party hair!)
@MelissaPhippsFeagins, that is so interesting about your great grandmother! Wow!! Did you know her? I don't think that tea sounds too bad. I'm going to have to remember those things.

Exercise -yes 2/15 it was interesting exercise too. We took the Cub Scouts to a living history farm. I chased 6 boys around making candles and feeding horses and lighting a Yule log. I need another dose of my tea. I'll be upping the spices when I drink it. My voice is on the fritz.

@bbinoa - I didn't know Great-grandmother Sarah. My mother's mother was born in 1894 and died in 1960. I learned most of this from my mom and just because I think it's interesting. (Sarah is the English name that sound most like her Indian name. I don't know enough Cherokee to say that, but even Sequoyah, who created the Cherokee alphabet, had an English name - John)

My grandmothers would have made the tea from sassafras, my mom.used chamomile or hot lemonade. I'll use whichever is handy.

Busy day of cleaning, shopping etc. I got a new vaccuum and got a little nuts trying it out. If you work up a sweat w a vaccuum, I think you get to count it as a workout (and as a sure sign you are officially "old" because that shouldn't have made me so excited!)
@MelissaPhippsFeagins I bet your family has some wonderful history and stories! I love learning about the past like that. I've lost all my grandparents and parents now, so I try to remember as much as I can to pass along to my kids!

30 minutes on the treadmill, 5 warm up jog then 30 seconds really hard, 1 minute 30 second slow-ish, repeated 10 times and a 5 minute cool down. And Merry Core-mas exercises - haven't missed yet and did measurements Saturday. Lost 1/2 inch around my hips and upper abs, 1 1/2 around my lower abs! Still coughing but I feel fine.

@Laughter_Girl, lots of deep breathing... You'll get through.

    Exercise, yep!

Finally got my foot diagnosis..... plantar fascitis. Boooo! They took x rays and ruled out other stuff. No running, or anything that causes impact or pressure on my foot. Cycling is ok (which is what I've been doing plus wts). I've got orthotics, and some prescription anti inflammatory meds. Continue icing and stretching. I go back in a couple weeks to see how I'm doing. I kind of suspected it, and I'm glad it's not a stress fracture but I hate to be slowed down and losing all that mileage I'd built up to stinks!

I did a little strength training this evening. I think I'll feel it in the morning, which is not a bad thing.

@jenthibert You were kicking booty today! Congrats on your inches loss too! Your core exercises are definitely working. I hope that nagging cough departs you soon.

@bbinoa So very sorry about the foot, but I'm glad it's not worse. Hopefully, following the doctor's orders will cause it to heal quickly. Try not to think about the mileage you're currently losing, and focus on the mileage you'll be able to tackle once you're 100%. ;) In the meantime, build those muscles.

Son's team dinner last night. Department lunch and gift swap today. Cookie baking with my daughter this afternoon for her school function. Busy, busy, busy with limited time to exercise when I need those extra calories the most, lol.

    @MelissaPhippsFeagins, I'm with ya!
