I've been thinking about it off and on for a year... but the conversion from 29er to 27.5+ has officially begun.

I mounted the 27.5 wheels from my son's bike on my WaltWorks 29er and took some measurements. With the sliding dropouts pushed all the way back, I've got 3.5" of clearance at the rim, and just over 3" at the tire knobs. That was really all the planning I could do, so the only thing left to do was order tires... which I did. WTB Bridger 27.5 x 3.0. They should be here Tuesday. I'll mount them to my son's wheelset and test fit them to my bike. If they fit, I'll then order a wheelset (rim width will depend on clearance at test fit). lf all goes well, I could be riding it next weekend.

I'm looking forward to an already fun bike becoming even more fun.

So did you finish the conversion? I'm hoping to do the same to my gt hardtail next month! super stoked on it and let me know what problems/issues you ran into.

No, I didn't. Clearance was too tight - when the wheels were perfectly true, everything was fine. But the minute they got even the slightest bit out of true there would have been clearance problems at the seatstays.
