"Don't do anything extreme" - drat

My optician just told me I have some swelling in my optic nerve and is referring me for checks.
So I asked if there's anything I need to be careful of, and he said I can "have a glass of wine - but don't drink too much". And weight lifting? "Well, you can do some, but don't push yourself too hard, basically don't do anything extreme until you get referral".
Doing extreme things sums up my life! So don't drink too much at Christmas, which will be interesting, and ... back off on the weights, I guess? I'm not happy! But he did think I'd get the referral soon so hopefully I'll get checked over and be fine.

"a glass of wine". Good luck with that one!!!0 -
Hmmmmm. I just typed 'weight lifting and optic nerve' into Google and got a whole page of results about how it can damage your eyes! Does anyone know anything about this?
The pressure at the back of my eye is really high and my vision is distorted. Jesus. Have I brought it on, with weights?!
I'm waiting to hear from the eye hospital, but don't know how long it'll take.0 -
Oh no, hopefully they get back to you quickly!0

Thanks, @Llamapants86! I'm less panicked than I was earlier, but skipped the gym tonight. I'll work out a reduced programme and just have to wait to talk to the doctor.
It looks like it's only a problem if you have glaucoma, really, and I don't. But my dad does, so .... I don't know. I'm just a bit freaked by my vision going wrong, it'll be a relief to work out what's going on....!0 -
must have been such a shock to hear it, but what a good thing it got caught. lighter programme definitely sounds like a good idea at least until you know where you really stand about it.0

My hubby has really high pressure in his eyes...not sure if this is the same thing. But his doc never said not to lift. But, follow doctor's orders!0

Woo! I have the all clear to start lifting again
That isn't to say there's nothing wrong - they're sending me for ultrasound and an MRI "just to check" but he said there's no reason not to lift heavy, hold my breath etc. Or, indeed drink wine, though no doctor is ever going to say 'go ahead, get rat arsed!'0 -
That's great to hear. Let's hope that it's nothing 'major'. Go enjoy your lifting and have a couple of wines0
