Anything I need to know about the surge? Tips? Things it does well?
I have small wrists, and always use the small flex band. I assume I'd use the small Surge?

Don't assume the sizing is the same. Go to the Fitbit site and use their sizing guide to figure out which you need.0

In the end, I went with the Charge HR. I bought the Surge, but found it too bulky for my tiny wrists. It was also a challenge to get my shirt sleeves down, and to type on the laptop. It didn't seem a good trade off to just get GPS, when my phone has that. Granted, I was hoping to ditch my phone on treadmill runs, oh well.
Oh, and the back light was rather dim.
Am enjoying the charge HR very much! It's quite a step up from my first gen flex!0 -

Why does GPS matter on treadmill runs? Now, if you wanted to ditch the phone on outside runs, I can understand that. I suspect I'll never be a serious enough runner to care if I have to have a pocket for my phone.
Anyway, I've had my Charge HR for almost a year now. I really don't feel any need for the additional features of the Surge and it would be way too big for me.0 -

The surge, with GPS has a "free" run and a "treadmill" run. For whatever reason, the "treadmill" run actually records a good treadmill run. If I record a run with the surge, it records it. If I record a run with the flex unless I'm holding it, it doesn't. I'm assuming the charge will be the same. tech support said as much. Sure, I get the steps, but I like to keep track of run mileage, and number of runs as well.
But yes, winter treadmill runs with my phone on the console are not enough of a reason to keep the surge.
I got spoiled by the many years I used Nike+ with the shoe sensor. I could leave my phone on the treadmill and forget about it. For the last while I've just run with it in my pocket. So I'll go back to that.
And transition from Nike+ (which is less and less iPhone friendly) to mapmyrun or run keeper.
